How to fit A Seat Strut Brace on the Fabia (discussion)

Featured Replies

AFAIK the bolts hold the top of the strut - i.e. the shock absorber - in the turret. No it won't drop out unless you have the car jacked up at the time (don't jack it up for this job :D )

for me, 25Nm is "as hard as I can more or less tighten them with a piddly little 12" wrench" And a turret hasn't fallen out yet.

If I can remember right, One Newton Metre is roughly the turning force exerted by an Apple (Bramley is OK) at 1 metre :) So, if you go to Tescos and buy 25 apples, and hang them on a 1 metre extension bar, you should have approximately 25Nm of torque exerted on the pivot point.

(Why did I write this?)

no idea but im gonna return my torque wrench as that way is much healthier lol

And dont worry nothing would fall out even if the car was in the air, you only take out two of the three securing bolts.

Ahmen to that :D

Unless you buy a Forge Motorsport one ;)

Yes if your apple weighs about 102 grams. A Newton is the force exerted by 1kg of mass so you divide weight by the acceleration due to gravity =9.81m/s/s to get mass. All this means that you multiply lbft by about 1.36 to get Nm...

e.g. 65lbft (wheel nut torque) = 88Nm (ask a tyre fitter, he'll tell you he uses 90).

well i just ordered mine :D its here tuesday i just hope this 49.98 is worth it :D

Not to sure if it is but it looks good :D

Im trying to fit my S B now and having problems lining the holes up can anybody help asap?

The holes lined stright up with mine no problems.. It is a Seat Sport one isn't it ?

Fitted mine Saturday. Took 20 mins, after buying a decent socket set!

It does seem to improve handling. Keeps the front end a lot tighter. And yes all the details for cost are spot on. I got mine from Seat in Watford for

Hey no worries just glad to help out

Funnily enough I've got my 20k service to do next week and was going to do the same, including a pollen filter change.

Ross, with so many people fitting new suspension, a really useful 'How To' would be removal and replacement of springs and dampers, especially the fronts!

I was looking at doing this (Not on my own car but a donor car) for free but I understand apart from spring compressors which I have there is another special tool that you need to buy. Ross is that the case ?

I have lowered lots of Clio's and have even created a how to on the cliosport website, but I have been told it is different on Fabia's.

I would also like to know the best way of getting the dampers out the hubs....with out using a ****ing big hammer. lol

Great ideea, great article!!

The only thing that is missing is the conclusion. Don't get me wrong, the conclusions have to come from those who have already a bar on, not just from one person ( the writer ).

Beside the good looks, how much will it improve the handling? Is it a serious improvement or just placebo? If better cornering is the issue, can the SB help or one should start modifying the suspension ( springs, stabilizer etc ) first and then the SB?

It's only just occurred to me to ask (mainly cos I don't own a Furby), but WHERE is the "how to"? I've just noticed this thread is just a discussion about something but doesn't contain a pointer to that something.

Is anybody else confused too?

I did ask Collin about this, I did look in the other ;) forum we have access to but it wasn't in there either ?

Also the how to fit an internal tray one has gone as well.

Answers on a postcard to the usual address.. :D

Weird I can't see that forum if I trace it back each level !!

There again I have different permissions now so maybe I can't see it.

Just spoke to Collin about it and I now understand how to view these
