Need a new Tiptronic gearbox.

Featured Replies

My Roomster 1.6 Tiptonic has always seemed a bit noise when driving (bit rumbly almost like wheel bearing noise) but wasn't sure wther this was normal or not, but just after Christmas this started getting worse when going round long sweeping curves e.g. big roundabouts.

A wheel bearing was replaced at the first service as this seemed a possible cause but wasn't really any better.

Overt the last couple of months it's started to develop a bit of a clunk when stopping and starting from rest or in slow moving traffic when constantly on/off on throttle. This has now developed to the point where you can actually feel it through your feet.

Anyway to cut a long story short it went into the dealers yesterday and the result is there is a problem in the final drive in gearbox which means a complete repalcement box is on order.

Dealer service has been excellent at getting to this stage - fingers crossed this will now sort it out.

Bad news that, but at least they can sort it out for you.

Well, just hoping that you will be able to post soon that you have a sweet and silent new Tiptronic.

I am wondering if what mileage you had got to when it went to the dealer. Also did you get the 'never heard of this before' line? Perhaps this IS a rare problem.

First noticed it at just over 1k miles - now just on 5k.

I did get the never had one of these go before line but I think that is genuine, at least for this dealer. I used to work in the motor trade and they know this as well as the fact I do everything on my classic from changing plugs to gearbox rebuild so they are not likely to bs

Sorry to hear of your troubles, hoping it wont be the same for all of us tiptronic owners. I have noticed that mine is often clunky into 2nd gear especially if there is little throttle. I also notice a vibration through the brake pedal when holding stationary in drive

The box is built to be mated with upto a 3.0 Engine though so I should imagine it is very understressed mated to the 1.6 in the Fabia

Had the gearbox replaced last Friday - so far so good and the car is a lot quieter at motorway speeds as well so suspect bearing failure right from new.
