EGR Value

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 1.4 16v (AUB) with an engine light on it. I haven't had it scanned yet but should be able to get it done soon.

What I am wondering is, if it's the EGR valve (which I have reason to believe it is) is it likely to fail an MOT on emissions?

Thanks for any help,

Joe.

That wont fail the test, They only test for smoke opacity with DERV's, nothing else, also the Catalytic converter is also surplus to requirements when it comes to emmision testing. The only thing you have to worry about is excessive smoke at about 3000rpm.

Sorry, shoulda made it clearer, it's a petrol engine, hence my concern. Wish it was a Derv as you can block it off then with no issues.

Thanks though.

Whoops, just realised you have a Petrol motor so forget the above. Still shouldn't affect the test though as only a small volume off exhaust is re-circulated through the engine and as long there are not too many pollutants coming out off the exhaust pipe, it will pass.

Reassuring news that, assuming it is the EGR valve.

Thanks for that, put my mind at rest.
