Thought I'd 'stolen' LE 154

Featured Replies

Nearly fell over with shock yesterday.

Fabia LE number 154 for sale at Lookers Renault Chester for £7995.

Told them I'd have it providing a decent trade in on mine was given. They needed to get a figure off the sales manager and would ring me back tomorrow, meaning today.

Sure enough they rang me, and we agreed a trade in figure after a bit of haggling.

Right then, I'll come in and pay the 3k difference later I sez.

Err, no, 4 thousand please he replies.

No, 3. It's £7995.

No, it's £8995 he replies

I suggests he goes out to check the screen price, and he confirms it does indeed show

£7995 NOT 8.

Deal finished and dead.

Downer!

What miles does it have on it?

I'm (half) sure it said 28k, but the web site says 24...I think, iirc.

Why you ask Rob? Bit far away for you .

I notice from the register that it came from Alex Lawrie in the 'Pool, but it had a Mitchell tax disc holder on it. First two letters didn't correspond with a Liverpool registration, as they come under Manchester over the water

Correct. Seems someone put the wrong first digit in the price holder.

Talk about "here's the prize you HAVEN'T won".:o

Can they not legally be forced to sell it as the "advertised price" ?

No, it's only an 'offer to treat' and they can also usually shelter behind the Errors and Omissions Excepted clauses in print adverts.

And they don't have to sell to you, even if you offer them the full price.

Dunno why, but that phrase made me laugh.

Never heard that one before.

No, that's not how buying stuff works.

You go to a dealer and offer to buy the for the the sticker price, the dealer isn't offering the car for sale at the sticker price.

As has been said, a "for sale" sign, or sticker price is an offer to treat.

And anyway, the garage can just refuse the sale!

I would love one. Just need to find the one at the 'right price' and 'miles'.

I'm going to VW next weekend on the big promo weekend to see what they have on offer - Just testing the market. :D

Correct. That's why I didn't pursue the matter. Bit disappointed all the same, as I thought I'd found the bargain of the year.

Damned good condition anyway, and appeared to be unmolested

Happened the other way around when I bought my Octaiva, I saw it advertised for £8995, and did the deal on that price over the phone. Went and looked at it and they had it priced at £7995 so I got the price knocked off :)

the Lookers advert in the local free paper said the price was £9495 iirc

re Manchester reg, a lot of dealers in the Liverpool area will have been selling cars with Manchester regs on , as that is where one of the DVLA offices is that issues the plates MA-MY , there is another in Deeside, hence DA-DK , my VRS is DK04 ### and was an Alex Lawrie car

there was a bit of a kick-off by some Liverpool people due to them having to have Manc plates on their cars , and i know there was one bloke who cancelled his orderfor a new Ford due to it having a MU reg

Didn't realise some cars from the 'Pool had the Deeside starter on them. You learn summat every day. ;)

It seems 154 has had various price tags on it now. £8795 is another one apparently.

It's no wonder their accounts dept. is so crap at paying their bills, as they don't even seem to know how much to charge their customers.

With a Nurburgring trip due in just 5 days,it would have been a fine first trip in it too.

The existing one will be treated today as a way of apologising to it for even considering getting shut. Credit card beckons.

If you look on Autotrader there are quite a few 07 plate vRS that arent SE's going for around the same price , so I think even at £8900 or whatever it is , its not a bad price. (It's also the closest SE to me thats for sale at a dealer..only 181 miles away!!! :) )

Dammit, I been ripped off. Just paid 9995 for mine.

What are they selling for LE at moment I thourt I could get a bargin as I have no Px

Well get yourself on the blower to Lookers Renault Chester in the morning old chap.

No p/x gives you legitimate 'chipping rights'.;)

I reckon you could nick, what on the face of it appears to be a fine LE example, for .....mmmmm....£8500 ish?

(I'm not on commision btw, just doing a public service, angel that Iam. :P )

Had a similar thing happen when we got SWMBO's Fabia. It was being advertised on AutoTrader with a minimum part ex of £1000. When we got there it was stickered up as min part/ex of £500. We showed the advert to the salesman and he agreed to honour the £1000 part/ex. I didn't have the heart to haggle on the price after that since we were part exing a Perodua Nippa we had paid £1200 for and then run for three years (and was getting in need of a new radiator).

Your a nice man, I would of pushed and pushed for more discount until he couldn't take any more. After shopping in Tunisia & Egypt you learn a few things about haggling.
