seat bolster wear in low milage vrs

Featured Replies

i didnt get much response in my other post so.

does any body have a low milage vrs and the seat bolsters have basically collapsed so there is no cushion in it.

as the vrs i went to look at was an 02 and it 45k milkes and i thought that the seat bolsters were well worn as i have seen a much higher milage car and the bolsters were fine. maybe just the person who was using it but i wasnt sure. the service book looked genuine and the car drove ok so its maybe just me.

sorry for the long post. any help would be great

matt

not a vrs, but my 2001 TDi has 149k on the clock and the bolsters are fine. I assume it is the leather which is worn badly?

the leather didnt seem that bad but the cushion inside had pritty much lost its shape if you know what i mean.

To the OP, as your car has low mileage its proberbly been used for lots of short trips, with the resulting lots of getting in/out of the car. Wear on the bolster is not indicative of anything odd, indeed on a lower mileage old car I may expect to find more wear than on a high mileage car of the same age. My reasoning for this is that high mileage cars typically drive longer distances, with less getting in/out and hence less wear on the bolster.

thats what i thought mate but i was just abit dubious about it. thanks for that

As the vrs bolsters are more pronounced than the non vrs bolsters they tend to suffer more from wear and tear when getting into/out of the car as already suggested.

when i bought mine with 60k on the clock the drivers door side boslter had collapsed and you could feel the metal through the leather, one of the first things i did was buy a new base from skoda (about £60iirc) and take the seat apart and replace the old one.

You should do this as eventually the metal will wear through the leather from the inside (i could see mine where it had rubbed the leather from the underside)

It was a bit fiddly to do and requires seat removal but its really worth doing and will make the seat much more comfortable!
