which tft to go for?????

Featured Replies

My head hurts!!!!! I want a TFT as I don't relly have the space for my 17" CRT. But I find myself going in circles with which one to choose. I use my PC mainly for films and gaming so need a low response time, but i'm having a night mare because reviews keep contradicting each other!!!!! Can anyone help me please as I am new to all this TFT malarkey the ones I fancy are

TFT 1

TFT 2

TFT 3

If anyone else can add any more reccomendations etc please feel free as I am getting a headache from searching

Cheers

I was recently shopping for a TFT panel and the Neovo models went to the top of my shopping list, although I was looking at the E-17 rather than S-17. Surprised Neovo products are not more widely available in the UK.

The thing that worries me is dead pixels. The neovo models seem quite prone to it. But they do look good

Mines badged Dell, is 17" and is very good, and didnt break the bank.

Only thing it doesnt have is a DVI input, but to be honest it plays Rainbow 6 type games perfectly....and doesnt have any problems which include dead pixels.

I have at home and indeed currently using a Philips 170W4 widescreen tft monitor. Quiet expensive as things go and it runs at a resolution of 1280x768. Excellent picture via the DVI connection although it doesnt come with a DVI cable, and boy are those cables expensive. The monitor also has a standard vga connection, and you can connect both at the same time and switch between them.

At work I have an LG 1710S I think it is, and the build quality is suspect to say the least. The backlight now flickers sometimes, and another one in our office has had 2 dead pixels from new, nothing can be done about those because "Its within manufacturer tolerances".

Always been most impressed with Relisys' stuff...come from the same production line as a lot of more expensive branded monitors, but without the price tag...

Interesting point to note about TFT's with DVI inputs, apparently they will soon be subject to an additional 10-15% surcharge according to EU regulations. The reason being that they can be classes as televisions.

We use Acer at work and have around 20 or so. Never had and problems with them and quality is good. Never had any problems when playing films pictures or games.

Reasonably priced as well.

Well, I still rate my Hitachi CML17SXWB (!) - bit old now with a thicker bezel than some of the new ones, but high brightness and contrast and one of the first to market with 16ms response time. hopefully its dropped in price too.

Obviously saying 'mine hasn't got any dead pixels...' is not very helpful, but before I bought I emailed Hitachi customer services on the subject and they replied (within the hour) setting out their policy on dead pixels - from what I remember it seemed better than some manufacturers you hear about.

I was advised by an 'expert' to buy a BenQ FP783 for its outstanding response time (12ms), brightness (310 cd/m2) and contrast (600:1) - all of which make it ideal for gaming. Apart from the price, the only other downside is the 50p/min charge for telephone support should you need it. It is not widely available but Simply sell it.

Isn't the 783's contrast 500:1?

It's a good monitor though, but like you say, not cheap!

Isn't the 783's contrast 500:1?
Nope, Rob. There are 2 versions of the 783 - and both are 600:1.

Bit late as usual but how much are you looking to spend? For a little more outlay why not consider a 19",heard nothing but good things about the Viewsonic VX910 X Second from bottom DVI cable included and it uses a 16 ms panel so should cope well with any dvd's or games you throw at it.

Will hopefully be a future puchase of mine.
