Suggestion for a future meet...

Featured Replies

This is just a suggestion, and I'm not currently offering to organise it

From reading several threads lately, it seems that people are:

a) Interested in meeting up if the location is relatively central (i.e. the 25th May meet)

B) Interested or semi-interested (or even curious) about a track day.

This may sound like a bit of an anti-climax after talk of track days, but here goes...

*drumroll*

Karting! :drive1:

If we could book somewhere for a block of time, hold some races, etc, this could be a perfect winter meet - plus everyone would be on an equal footing vehicle wise (and not have to worry about the insurance, or damage)...

Just an idea I thought I'd run up the ol' flagpole...

(And yes, there is an indoor karting place in colchester, but that's not exactly central...!)

And bejesus! Don't you feel old when you start thinking about the winter in May? :D

Yep sounds a good idea anything more than just a pub is good & sitting watching cars go round & round & round & round is not everybodys idea of fun

Another thought, Recently did a day Quad biking in North wales, Brilliant day out, Through rivers, up f'ing steep hills, loads a mud. Even Wendy enjoyed it, thought she wasnt going quick enough, the guy behind clocked her at 40 kph. Stayed in a pub the night before which forgot to close, at least not before 1.30. they can take groups of 10

Oh yeah? What about the 6'5" tall dutchman who has to get his jeans from Holland cos the English are all so 'petit'? :D

But it would be a good laugh though and something I could drag my, gawd knows how many stones, butt to ;)

Ok, come on then - let's have some locations and their associated "activity" from you all...

Well, Santa Pod is quite centrally located, as is Bruntingthorpe. I don't know how one goes about finding out about these venues. Hopefully all are on the web. I like the idea of karting too, but I don't know of any circuits in central locations. I'd be up for quad-biking too - always wanted to have a crack at that. Are there any places that do "driving challenges" such as 4X4 courses or driving on skid-pans? I did a skid-control course near Exeter, and it was SO much fun (and good for learning too)

I can't think of anything else tonight. I'll think at work tomorrow - Its not like I do any work there is it? :D

Also for drag racing you have Shakespeare County Raceway ( the former Avon Park) , but not sure if they host any RWYB meets there.

Karting is great fun!

Just dont invite fab16v - I think he's a bit of a karting pro and we'd all probably get thrashed! :o:D

Last time I went karting, I had bruises and a few aches and pains for a couple of weeks afterwards!

Did I hear my name mentioned there! :p

Don't believe a word of it, though this season is going quite well I may add. 2 class wins out of 4 races. Woohoo!! :D

The quad biking sounds like fun and is something a bit different.

Sounds like it could be a good laugh!

Thats pretty good going! Do you race those really fast superkarts, or just the normal ones? Not that I know anything about karting whatsoever! :o

How was GTi International by the way? Did you get much interest in the Fab??

We race in Biz TKM 100cc 2 strokes. They get upto about 80mph. Which is all good fun! :D

GTi International wasn't as good as expected, but not a bad day by all accounts. Found a couple of places that do coilovers for the Fab, along with turbo conversions and cams for the 1.4 16v.

Also had a good long chat with erik from AAT and they seem to do alot for the 1.4 16v lump. Got quite a few ideas, just ashame about the lack of funds at the moment!

I'll double check prices etc for the Quads over the weekend & post next week. I'm up for it again but North wales isnt exactly central for all so how about doing the Karting somewhere south.

One question to those who have done a lot of Karting, I have only done it once & that was indoor, Is it better outdoors, I believe they have an outdoor track at Castle Coombe & There is a new one at Thruxton which I have heard is good

I suggested Karts thinking it would be indoors, and "weather proof"...

Local Kart place here (colchester) also run mini motorbikes which look quite fun (if not painful to fit on!)

I have been on the outdoor track at Castle Combe. It's very small and only about 4 karts are allowed on at once, although they do organise a tournament with heats and a knockout. It rained a little when we were there - and the karts are on slicks - got quite exciting !! :D

Quads sound mega - never been on any form of motorcycle like transport except once as a pillion passenger .... but as Stuart says - North Wales, although one of the country's most pleasing spots, is not exactly central. Ideal for the Warrington-ites though.

Quad biking - Yep

Karting - Yep, although I have a power to weight ratio of a large detached house :D

Nice gentle drive in the country

Trackday - Yep

Drag strip - Nah, bin there done that

Trip to the Ring :D (Manny, June 21 and mid Sept)

North Wales has big hills which is great for quads, the south is a bit flatter.

Day consists of a couple of hours in the morning trekking through the hills on Tarmac roads + a lot of straightish loose forest tracks "FLAT OUT at times" Then lunch at the pub followed by a few more hours in the proximity of the farm, Steep hills, rivers etc, yeah, along the river as well as across. Full waterproofs are provided but I still got VERY wet & Muddy & at the end was totally knackered.

I went on the karts at Oakwood Leisure Park near Tenby, and although it was fun and I won the race, the bloody things wouldn't go over about 10/15 mph, which sucked. I wanted some wind in my face! I know its not driving related, but how about a "vRS Vs Everyone Else" paintball session? :D

...Its gripped!!...Sorted!!!...LETS PAINT BALL!!! (Copyright the Fast Show Circa 1998)
