Maxidot installations guidelines anyone?

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any first hand experience fitting a Maxidot display in an Octy 2?

If so, What is involved and what are the pitfalls to look out for?

I am confident in using VCDS and also have the 7 digit security code which I believe is necessary for the job.

Heres hoping!!

Excellent, thanks for that. The procedure seems to be for a used cluster. Is it the same procedure for a brand new one??

How do you get the extra information for the pin? Does it matter?

eg.......

Enter the 7-digit PIN, Date on which the PIN was generated by the dealer, along with the Workshop Code (WSC) and the Importer number of the dealer that generated the code

Brilliant, thanks for that.

Hmmm, now I'm a bit confused. Can you extract the pin of the cluster you are removing for this step.......

"Make sure to have BOTH PIN's, from the OLD (ORIGINAL) and the NEW (USED) instrument cluster. "

I realise that the new cluster will come with the login code

Thank you for your assistance

You can with the correct (but expensive) tools, however many people have the login code on their spare key tag.

Aha, I've just checked and I have that label on my keys too, there is a 7 digit number which I assumed was the pin but then there is a small white label with what looks like a VAG part number and a big bold 4 digit number so this must be the pin.

Do you have the GSM phone kit fitted too?

That's the one you need :)

Yes, I have the bluetooth kit fitted that integrates with the Maxidot, infact the main reason I did the Maxidot was so I could have the bluetooth.

Apologies for all the questions but did you install the bluetooth kit yourself? If so do I just need the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and last item from this page?

www.skodateile.cz

Yes I did install it myself, but I bought it from someone as a kit that I think VRStu originally put together.

You are correct as to the parts you need, there is an installation guide floating around but it's a doddle if you've done anything like that before (I've been doing mods on VAG cars for years)

I've found the excellent guide on VRSTUs octavia site and it looks easy enough to follow.

Does the green audio connector which connects into the quadlock on the back of the head unit provide an interupt (mute) signal to the head unit when the phone is in use? The reason why I ask is that I have an Alpine X100 IPOD unit installed and wonder how that would affect the operation of the unit.

ie. would it still work?????????

Does your Alpine have a telephone audio input? The bluetooth unit uses the radio's amplifier so if it doesn't have the telephone input you may have a problem. I believe my old Alpine did though.

I'm relatively sure that the mute wire in the harness is just a standard mute wire so you will be able to connect it to the Alpine.

I'll check for that.

Thank you for your help again, much appreciated

No problem

HI every one...

If you have a used instrument cluster with mazidot, and you dont have the 4 digit code for it, im i just **** out of lusk on that one....?

Im a correct in asuming that my skoda dealer can request the the code for the instrument cluster i have at the moment, when i cant find the litle label for the keys...

With the correct tools it can be recovered, are you in the UK? I can do it for you.

Skoda won't give you the SKC to the used cluster unless you can prove ownership of it (which I guess means proving ownership of the vehicle it came out of).

Just remembered that you are in Denmark. You could ship it to me if you wanted but I am going away for a couple of weeks soon.

Sounds great... if i cant convince my skoda dealer to do it, i will think about sending it to you.... he was saying something about WIN (vehicle identifacation number, dont if is called the same in the UK) number from the car it came from, that he would need that...

What diagnostic tool would you use to extract the code....!

If you have a friendly dealer then yes the dealer could find the SKC by applying for it using the vehicle's VIN and the IMMO ID.

I use Abrites VAG Commander.

What about the produktion date on the instrument cluster.

Is that something that could be an isue, i have been reading something about that if it was produced after the 7 month of 2006 that it would not be possible..

Where did you read that?

Not sure if that list is up to date or not. Had no problems with my cluster but I have a 2006 car.

I'm rather sure it is. VAG Group changed the algorithm for the clusters at that date.
