Alarm on octavia vrs??

Featured Replies

OK, bit of a query, went to my local dealer, and bought an 18month old very low mileage vrs, Its got the ASR button on the dash, which I figured out is standard on it.

The salesman said it has an alarm and immobiliser, I asked specifically for my insurance, he said it has both. I just found it does have an immobiliser, dead locks, etc, BUT the skoda brochure says no Alarm!!!

how will I be able to tell if it has one, just for info, I've not picked it up yet.

thanks for any help, and whats the upgrade to cat one alarm cost?

will contact dealer, but I want to get clued up first.

Andrew

look under the bonnet for the siren...sort of a small megaphone looking object..also look inside at the top corners of the windscreen depending on the alarm it may have motion sensors located there...also on the doors at the hinge end look and see if an aftermarket push switch has been added..

see if there is a non standard fob on the keys of vehical....failing that....open the car with the standard button on the ignition key..the alarm shoudl go off when you open the door

alarms range from a decent one fitted not cat 1 ~

Standard it comes with ASR (so it is nothing special ;)) and immobiliser. An alarm can be factory fit, or aftermarket. If you don't get a seperate keyfob to arm/unarm the alarm then chances are no alarm is fitted. Some alarms will operate on the standard keyfob, so your best bet is to do as Joel already has suggested.

Although my previous car had all the fittings of the alarm (siren, sensors, etc), the actuall control unit was removed and no keyfob was handed to me... makes a good deterrent though ;)

thanks, I think its a requirement for my Insurance.

there was no extra fob on the test drive, and no extra bits I could see inside, although my old golf had neither, and had an alarm!

Andrew

I recently got a low mileage Y reg vRS andthey do have an immobiliser as standard but not an alarm.

Who is your insurance through? I got mine from Egg,

If it's not a standard fit, your insurers may ask to see a copy of the Certificate of Installation.. Adrian Flux do if an alarm is specified by insurers. They also ask how many remotes you have.

A lot of Octy RSs seem to have had a Scorpion alarm added by dealers - although doesn't sound as though yours has the same one as that requires a separate key fob (which does all the doors etc).

However, my wifes Ibiza didn't say anything about an alarm on all the info they provided, doesn't have any visible motion detectors or alarm signs (i.e. light) and yet does appear to have an alarm ... since it went off during the summer much to our confusion :o

Well, just recently ive had a Clifford fitted through Gap Security online, and i got talking to the guy about it having an imobilisor but no alarm, but he said it has got an alarm, he went on to say that sometimes they just tie it into the Horn, so not always a siren housing under bonnet.

Hope it helps, another thing he said is that he knew because of the led nxt to the pin on the drivers side door- it was run off the alarm output.

Lee

As far as I'm aware the LED on the door is run off the immobiliser not an alarm.

Maybe he doesnt know what he's tal;king about then, but he did say he'd been an auto electrician/ alarm installer for 10 years...?

My Golf had the door LED and did have an alarm. My Octy has the door LED and doesn't have an alarm. He may just not be familiar with VAG cars, it is a common assumption that the LED is for an alarm, I hope crim's think the same.

The flashing is controlled by the central convenince system as it can be output tested using VAGcom.

The flashing LED by the drivers door pin just indicates that the deadlocking is set. Its run off the central locking ecu and has no connection with the alarm whatsoever.

Point 1. Octy vRS has no standard fit alarm.

Point 2. Never believe a word GAP security tell you.

Here ends this public service announcement :)

So Gap not that good a company i take it, this was the independent installer, not Gap themselves :)

Like you say he must be confusing it with VW's, as i seem to rem him saying his training was with vw/ porche.

G(cr)ap fitted a Concept 300 to my previous Astra.

After 3 of their (independant) installers attempted to rectify constant false alarms, i took it to the guy who fitted the 500 to my Octy, and also fitted a couple of previous alarms to other cars for me.

He sorted it in less than 1 hour.

Go figure :)

Damn really wished i'd have known that before going with Gap, and its funny you should say coz at the mo, i aint got proximty on my concept 650 like i should, after he left, the alarm kept going off, anyway we eventually put it down to the proximty sensor being knacked - am yet to see a new one :thumbdwn: contacted him today, no reply as yet either

what i said was just a rough guide...it does really depend on what alarm is fitted...

Joel

What sort of alarm would you guys reccomend? Dont want to pay too much for one as if someone wants your car bad enough they will get it.

Clifford / Sigma / Toad. :)

Contacted Gap today, they're getting the proximty sensor in today, so i should have it mon/tue

And if you're lucky, it'll be working for :xmas: :D

*touching ALL the WOOD i can
