Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

This is a bad day for me as for the first time ever (I used to pride myself thet this never happened) my beloved vRS has been hit.

Fishponds (Bristol) 1420 on 20th May 2009.

Had done some shopping and was pulling out of the carpark.

This is what it has done to my car, and I have now used bilberry cleaner on it and rinsed well but It is not perfect it has scratched the wheels , They will prob tell me to get over it but it is still not right.

This is the damage to her car:

Luckily her front end went into the arch so its not as bad as it could of been. but its not the point. the car had never been pranged and the rims had never been curbed or rubbed till now and I want all the wheels to look the same and as good as new all the time.

I love my car and for that reason soon as it happened I stopped and looked at the damage and I walked away off to the side as I was fuming. Have no real recollection of what I did but I was told thet I was shoutin a lot and hitin posts and kickin them, then I sank to my knees. GF told me that. after bout 5 mins I calmed down enough to move the car so ppl could get past. the GF sorted all the ins stuff from the woman as I think she was too scared to talk to me.

put it this way I had to go off to the side coz if not I dont know what id of done lol, luckily noone came up to me to calm me down neither.

What are ppls thoughts?

I have told my ins (adrien flux:thumbup:) and I am going down to a place in WSM tomoz for a valuation. but I think they will just say a wheel refurb. but will a refurb be good enought?

thanks

billy:O

New wheel imo. matching those wheels colour could be a bitch.

Sorry to hear this mate :thumbdwn:

personnaly I would take the opportunity to scrap the car and start again with something else.

I'll take it off your hands..

on a more serious note, it's not too bad and as you said it could have been worse. Regardless of what the insurers do, if you aren't happy with the end result you don't have to accept it back.

cheers, I was thinkin that thats why I called the ins as she claimed she wasnt payin attention and didnt see me. mm a nice sunney day and a black shiny car moving mmm lol

I told the ins that its not too bad but that they are bout £800 ish for the wheels. I am going to email team dynamic to see what they say about it. I have tried cleaning them but it has marked the coating. It will do as a spare rim if I can keep it but we shal see what the repair place in WSM says tomoz.

"I DO NOT BELEIVE IT" in the words of victor meldrew lol

thought you were bein seriouse there lol.

a mate of mine has already said hell have mine lol. its not bad enought to sell her tho sorry.

I dont want ti refurbed tho as I cant see it having the nice met finnish to it thet TD have put on it. I know that it is gonna cost a fair bit more tho for a new rim. but will it still be a match?

and I certainly cant afford a new set.

Gutting mate.:thumbdwn: To some people a car is a mode of transport. To the more discerning motorist it is a hobby and a cherished posession. Hope it gets put right to your satifaction.

cheers mate.

me too.

She is a lot to me lol adn I think I scared the crap out of a few other ppl that were around. the GF said to the woman that "the car is a lot to him and that is why he is reacting the way he is"

I was fisically sic when I got home and I had a really bad headache, Never have I ever felt so much like dying in my life lol. OOO I felt bad.

GF said its PTS lol or similar. I jus laughed.

cheers again guys

billy

Parallel park go wrong

bad news. Has the other driver admitted liability?

Basically, the bodyshop should return the car to the condition it was in, so choose the bodyshop carefully and insist on a good job.

As others have said, I understand that you are upset. Many people do just see their car as transport.

 thats not the car you used for the WSM meet is it?

**** I would be devastated.

If I did the damage then I wouldnt of been as P155ed but coz it was out of my hands it is really friustrating.

The ins company HIGHWAY has chosen the shop and its in WSM. the wing I think will be ok but you cant just spray one wing as it wont look right so the bonnet and other wing will need doing too. was quoted 360 by a mate up in leeds for the same thing. but thats coz of a nother egg incident years go that I wanted sorting.

To a lot of ppl it is not woth doing anything about but even stone chips annoy me and the swirl marks. so this is really bad.

thanks again

No police. and she said she wasnt paying attention and asaid it was her fault, I didnt give any of my details as it wasnt my fault but she gave me or my GF(as i was still fuming) her card and name and address, also who to call for the ins details as its a company car. then I got pics and that was that. think she was in shock as she was parked in the car for a while and didnt go anywere.

I am worried now as I have found myself to be verry wary and constantly looking at everything really hard. only took my GF to uni (4mile round trip) and I am so tired after it lol.

billy

****, sorry to hear about this Billy :thumbdwn:

They look like Pro-Race 1.2s? I used to have them on my Fiesta bout 5 years ago (15"s though), I didn't think they did them any more?

I reckon you could get away with a rub down and respray on the panel and a refurb on the wheel for somewhere between £250 and £350 for the lot. but as you say if you want it perfect it might mean a new wheel and more respraying. The insurance might draw a line at that, depends what the assessor says

Try and take a bit of a break from driving if you can over the bank holiday weekend. I found I was in a bit of a state after my accident recently and I really wasn't psychologically up to being behind the wheel for a while, constantly thinking about what you need to do to get it fixed tends to take your mind off the driving :thumbdwn:

  • Author

yea mate I have seen the state of yours. LOTS LOTS wors than mine tho. I am not gonna drive ne were. just to pic the GF up later on. but I was gonna go on a meet on sunday but def not now.

I am a bit embaraced as if I hadnt kissed the GF before moving I could of been past it and fine. or if I had kissed her again this id of been behind. or if Id of driven a few mile an hr faster ie 10 instaed of 5 I might of got away with it.

lol

Thats the thing tho, if I get like this when something happens to the car then god knows what Ill do if something happens to the GF.

Hows things goin wi that chicken?

  • Author

lol sorry

yea they are PR 1.2 Had them for 9 month or so now and never curbed them, no marks on them at all. Luckilly there was a few layers of POORBOYS wheel seeler on them which I think helped a tad. cleaned them up thismornin and they looked perfect lol till I dried them and the marks showed up.

least now its only the damage that is visible so how they are now is the real damage not superficial

billy

sorry to hear, its soo much worse imo when its not your fault. just make sure the TP doesnt change her tune and deny liability.

and make sure your car is perfect afterwards, and i mean do not take the car away until you are 100% happy.

  • Author

lol

yea I wont be. The car drives fine and is perfect as it was a scrape not really a bang, the noise was the sound of the lip on the Zafira bumper clicking in the spokes. never felt anything thru the steering onr the seat.

I am sure that it will be sorted properly.

If they say it needs spraying I would like both wings and the bonnet doing to match it all up and preferably a new rim or get it back to TD for the refurb as they should be able to match them all up.

Are the Numbers on the rims a set number?

billy

Thats the sort of thing that was going through my mind, all the little things that could've happened differently that day so I wasn't in that place at that time! I think it's worse when it's not your fault and you're constantly asking "why me!?" :thumbdwn:

Mine got fixed in the end, paid for the work myself and it cost me around £800  looking at it now though you wouldn't know what happened to it. Bodyshops really can work wonders :)

Ace mate!!

glad you got her all fixed up.

I actually hurts me to see cars smashed up. cant understand why ppl dont take car of them!

nice to know you still one of the group lol.

sounds like a lot of money but I hope its worth it in the end. Take it there is no chance in it cracking the screen?

all the best mate

billy

Sorry to see it's been hit.:thumbdwn:

I would try and pay the extra and have all the front end resprayed if you can.;)

Also pay the extra and get a new rim, keeping the old one as a spare or send it back to TD to get resprayed.

The numbers on the alloy will be something like

5K2-770385100 this is actually a 7 x 17 gloss black pro race 1.2 code.

5k2 is wheel type i think?

770 is something to do with width and colour

38 is the et (offset)

5100 is stud pattern

if you give TD or rimstock a ring they should help you out.

  • Author

cheers mate,

sent them an email.

the numbers I am on about ar in a little rectangular box in one of the spaces between the spokes.

14238 then next smaller box over is 5

14238 8

11238 15

1 238 10 (the one thats marked

not sure. the number you on about is i think dotted in to the rim isnt it?

billy

unlucky bud, i hope you get it sorted

To put the record straight, that's not my current fabia above, but is the same colour/model/wheels. :) I smacked it up in Jan 2004, so a long time ago :D

That sucks mate. Really feel for you. I'm quite worried about what I'm gonna do if anyone ever runs into mine. I properly lost it about a month ago when some spanner in a Focus nearly pushed me off the road, I was passing him on a dual carriage way and he just started moving across into my lane. I jammed the anchors on big style and got as far over as i could without scraping the barrier and he was still coming even though I had my air horns blaring. Must've been no more than half an inch between our cars by the time he realised that actually other people use the road too. I was proper enraged and followed him for miles trying to get him to stop and "discuss" his lack of driving ability. Proberbly a good job he didn't stop as I'd most likely be in prison now!

lol I know what you meen mate, ppl like that shouldnt be on the road.

hope you have a good time on sunday mate.
