ASR just won't accept rejection

Featured Replies

I'm having a little annoyance with my octy at the moment to do with the asr!

It fuctions perfectly when required and does a very good job of not letting me toast my front tires too quickly..

However whilst driving a favorite bit of road in an enthusiatic style recently i decide to enjoy the octys chassis and driftability (thank u mr dunlop 4 makin **** tires).

With the ASR firmly disengaged and the light on the dash board advising me i was about 2 be a fool i set off.

First courner is a fastish hairpin bend. imagine my suprise when whilst drifting beautifully round the bend mr ecu (:finger) decides that he wants the throttle back and shuts off all the power!! This resulted in me having kittens and collect a very very sideways moment (hmmm lift off oversteer anyone?)

Now i'm pretty certain my car doesn't have esp it runs fine otherwise but the asr just won't let me have fun - why is this???

BTW has anyone else noticed u can't left foot break these things either?

Is your car modded? Could be overboost putting it into limp mope??

Sorry best suggestion I can come up with

Nopey totally standard (for the moment) ran a diagnostic on it and no fault codes recorded...

Same for the Fabia...left foot brake and she just dies

IIRC when you brake at speed the ECU cuts the fuel supply to the engine although it doesn't allow the engine to stall.

Sadly ASR is never turned off, just dumbed down alot...although with it off (I have ESP) I've yet to hit the dumbed down limit in a turn...so hats tipped to you.

A few others might know better or how to get around it.

You could disable the things which prevent left foot braking ;)

I have been sideways like there was no tomorrow at the handling day with ASR off and at no point have I experienced the things you describe.

There is a video somewhere of ffelan going so sideways with so much tyre smoke you can hardley see his car. I think it was at the same handling day as Q.

How do you tell if your car has ESP?

Dashboard switch is labelled ESP instead of ASR IIRC :)

Did you disable the ASR at a standstill or whilst moving?

Apparently and it seems to be true, if you disable the ASR when moving it doesn't fully disable it.

So if you "disabled" it whilst moving the scenrio you described would seem to indicate so.

I've disabled the ASR at a stand still and got plenty smoke on handling day... DaveU will testify to it. ;)

Left foot braking doesn't work...as per what Denis said.

How? :)

No left foot braking due to the fly by wire throttle, IIRC this cannot be changed as it is controlled by the ECU.

Having read the posts (thanku 4 the replies btw) i've been out playing.

Adrain it looks as if your spot on- if i kill asr whilst driving then it seems to still cut in but at a slightly more agressive level than normal. If i turn it off whilst stationary then slidage can be achieved :-)

thanks guys
