Has anyone fitted a trip computer/cruise control to a Mk2 Octy Classic?

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping someone has attempted this already?

I dont currently have either cruise control or maxidot, although we've tried to get this function working today.

Now im looking for some advice, after we had a couple of teething issues.

So if anyone has attempted this, please get in touch with me.

Yep, looking to see if anyone's fitted cruise as my local dealer tells me there was a bulletin about fitting cruise to a Classic as he says the Central Convenience module isn't up to the job.

I'm not convinced (the same person told me it wasn't possible to retrofit a Maxidot because "all the Bordnetz is different") but would like to hear from anyone who has cruise on a classic before Browny puts his hand in his pocket for a new steering wheel control module.

Looks like were the only ones mad enough to try so far matey!

Do you have the correct wiper stalk with the button on the end.

I would think all the computers in the car are the same. You may just need to code things in the appropriate ecu to get the computer running.

Does anything work at all?

The cruise stalk was communicating through the ecu, and was showing values within vag-com, but we were having an issue with the steering angle adaptation. And was wondering if this was holding us out.

Even after being put back to stock, the car was holding the amber steering wheel icon up, we went out for a longer drive. I pulled up did a full left and then went to do a full right and the light extinguished coming back to centre, the steering went light after that.

Ben will probably be along to give you a more of a in depth description at some point, as i was the muscle behind things yesterday.

Certainly felt like it after driving about with partial powersteering. LOL

Manny I'm pretty much in agreement with you and have done loads of other cars in the past. I reckon there's no major problem with the correct steering ECU but I don't want Mr Brown here to be out of pocket! The dealer doesn't understand that everything in these cars is CAN connected and when I started telling him that I could see the information in the measured block values I think I lost him to be honest.

Browny - I reckon we're just going to end up going for it in the end. That steering adaptation was a nightmare yesterday, but at least we know the fix - drive it until it goes off!!

Hahaha, thats what i thought on the way home mate....its a case of being able to get the adaption working and seeing if that cures it. Then its getting the clocks sorted ;)

On a side not the car is a 54 plate registered dec 04, im not entirely sure if this would cause a problem. As i think the car may have been a demonstrator/company car.

Hi did you get any further with this? The reason is I tried to retro fit cruise to my Leon MK2 reference (which is the equvalant to an Octavia classic i.e. no trip computer) but it did not work. We changed the steering controller to one that was meant to be compatable with cruise, coded it and changed the coding on the engine ecu, but the cruise was still not working. When checking via vag com some of the switch functions of the cruise stalk are recorded. I wonder if there might be something in the central convinience module thing?

There is a specific routine for the steering wheel adaptations Ben, you need to do some of it in the ABS as well. The Wiki has all the info.

I had a thought the other night, that the car may have no clutch pedal switch.

This is just a thought that it may not be recieving a signal for the clutch pedal and hence holding the cruise out.

I've not got around to it yet, as Ben is awaiting a software update to get into the newer maxidot dashpods.

Just a quick update on this one. I finally got my cruise control working on my Leon Reference with the help of Ben @ Shark Performance. I went to Ben for a dash change so I could get a trip computer etc (he is an expert on SKC retrieval) and we also swapped out my steering control module to an AF type from an AE. Before we swapped the dash we checked and yes the cruise worked fine. So, I would think that if you have the correctly matched steering control module you should be able to get cruise working in an Octavia classic no problem.

Ah so your the fella who Ben was talking to me about, im quite happy to hear things went well with your car.

Im quite looking forward to Ben recieving his new tool/software so we can get past the security on my 2007 dashpod. Then we can get the maxidot in and working along with cruise control :)
