What oil does the car get fitted with at the factory?

Featured Replies

I'm assuming it's long life oil if the cars seem to be set as standard at long-service-variable intervals as opposed to the alternative yearly service interval.

With this in mind, is there any point in getting a service done after one year? Or is it worth it because of something i'm missing, such as getting rid of any swarf/build up that comes off in the engine in the first year of the cars life?

Just wondering whether to bother with a first year service or just leave it until the second year and THEN change to the annual/10,000 mile service I prefer.

General consensus boys and girls??

It will be long life oil, if you are on fixed servicing with this oil then you still need to change at 10K/1 year as the oil quality sensors are disabled when not on variable servicing. Either way your car will tell you when it needs a service.

The PD TDi, has to use longlife oil regardless of service regime.

My car was set as needing long-life oil, but I just personally prefer having the car serviced yearly/every 10,000. I'm just wondering if i'm spending money I don't need to if I get it serviced before the computer tells me to.

Is there any benefit in getting it done prematurely just to get it set on my preferred choice of yearly/10,000 miles as opposed to how it's set now, ie from the factory? (it's a '58 1.8tsi with about 8,000 miles on the clock)

There is no harm in changing the oil now, just make sure that the dealer resets the computer to fixed servicing. They may well try and tell you to come back when the car prompts you though.

Okay, but is there any benefit in changing it now instead of waiting until it bings madly at me? Just wondering if it's spending money on something that doesn't realistically need it.
