Fabia VRS VS Fiesta ST

Featured Replies

Office banter.

So whats the deal on these two?

Obviously the ST would eat it apart off the line, but what about from 30-top speed?

And what about a remapped VRS @170/180BHP. what would be the outcome then?

Just to settle some disagreements in the office

I'm in for the long haul on this one :rotz:

stock - close call. The 190Nm will soon show it's weakness once up to around 50mph. That 230 lb/ft would soon ease the fabia back.

remapped - I would hope level up to 30mph, then 2nd & 3rd would pull the fabia away.

Never underestimate a fiesta ST - That's all I'll say. I still do even now. :)

From what I've read, the fiesta ST is faster and handles better.

A fabia with a very good remap and set of suspension/handling upgrades might JUST be able to match it, but start tinkering with the ST in the same kind of way and the fabia's left behind all over again.

If you want a car you can take to the red line and chuck in to twisties, take the ST. If you want a car that's comfortable to sit in with a bit of overtaking poke and 'nice' handling, take the Fabia.

Personally I wouldn't even bother trying to compare to an ST. On the track day I'm going on in a week or so's time I'll be having my eye on slower cars, that's for certain. :D

30mph, 5th gear and nail it. Thats the only figure worth talking about:thumbup:

Also, at 147.9bhp and weighing in at approx 1165kg, compared to the fabias 130bhp and 1315kg, that's FIESTA 126.9hp/ton vs FABIA 98.9hp/ton.. how can anyone argue that the fabia as standard could match the fiesta at ANY speed? Driven correctly the ST is faster in every way.

You'd need the fabia remapped to around 160hp to start to be comparable, in my opinion.

I could be wrong - the power delivery of the fiesta could be VTEC like, but I'm guessing the power curve on the fiesta is quite straight and you have a lot of power over a broad rev range, completely the opposite to the fabia ;)

I know we're talking about Fiestas here..

But a friend has a Focus ST which was completely standard, with my fabia in its current spec we had a bit of a blast out of a corner together, we got up to about 100mph together and i was hot on his bumper. I'd imagine they'd pull away at higher speeds, but was quite supprised i kept up..

Eh? Do you mean like the time Jezza did something similar with an Evo and a Suzuki Liana? ;) 5th at 30 in the Fabia will just cause lots of complaining from the engine and a plume of black smoke - 27mph/1000rpm or more (depending on the 'box you have) you'll barely be idling...

If you read slower, you'll see i said Focus, not Fiesta... I'm talking about Pete..

ahhhh yerrsshhhh i see haha! well now he has that remap he destroys us :thumbdwn:

a friend used to have a Fiesta ST, and as standard, he would be a lot quicker than me once up to speeds....i put that down to the vRS just running out of poke in the rev range!

Once I got mine remapped, the vRS would then pull away with relative ease...but not by a massive gap.

He has since traded his ST in for a Integra DC5....so I wont be challenging anytime soon!!

okay what about vs a octavia vrs mk1 ? im certain my octavia would do my mates st but he doesnt think so yet has always turned down the chance to find out off the lights! Im pretty sure the vrs would do him although its no contest now with the remap!?

i cant really say in terms of "vs" that id find it fair, ones a diesel ones a petrol, i dont think diesel will ever outperform a similiar specd petrol, when i got my fab vrs i got it for a mix of good fuel economy, cheap tax and cheap(ish) insurance, and of course a bit of fun

if id have wanted all out performance id have gone for fiesta st/clio 182 and the likes

i was once working in st helens and one of the lads there had a fiesta ST and he had to travel less than me yet was filling up every 2 days, i was every 4 days and even then i had about a fifth of a tank left

sounds like you brought sensibly mate.

Tbh i didnt mean the octavia v the fabia, i meant the octavia v the fiesta st.

Gotta watch out for those thum bups

Fabia VRS remapped is pretty much equal to a Mini Cooper S Convertable, pulls about an inch in front 55mph+

Read that as you will.

raced a vxr corsa last night i was gonna give up then i started to pull him in again, was closing up on him when he decided to turn off, was no fun, i reckon my fabia would walk a fiesta st, but if the st had as much spent on it he be in different league? fabia will always play catch up to the other big dogs in its standard form, but hey isn't it why we love modifying

Who cares?

Both are "much of a muchness", small nippy little hatches, any benefits of one are off set by the benefits of the other. Economy, cheaper running costs and mid range punch of the Fabia are off set by the better corninring ability and standing start pace of the ST.

For one person the ST would be the better car, for another the Fabia would be

Still going :rotz:

correct me if im wrong but didnt auto car do a feature a while back where they compaired hot hatches and the fabia went round the track quicker then the st? it was a super chip fabia, think it was at 170bhp. ill look if i still have the mag.

my mate has a st and i have a vrs ,his is stock and mine is superchiped at 167ish ......

had a bit of a drag with him

half a car in it to about 80 then i pulled on him a little .....then ran out of road lol

will have to have another blits and see :)

/yawn

Surely you would be more interested in knowing which tyres would be best or perhaps how much a service costs as these topics are hardly ever discussed...

I see a lot of the replys on here suggesting that the ST is quicker. A few guys from work an i set up a gokarting day at scotkart close in glasgow. One of the guys i work with has a fiesta ST and on the way up we were kinda playing about but i wouldn't say there was much in it between the ST and my VRS which are both standared. :P
