Lowering a Fun

Featured Replies

After putting some new 14" wheels and tyres on the fun, the next step is lowering. I have looked though here and other websites and it would seem the front end is easy, but the back end a little more tricky.

Some people have used Mk5 golf springs for the rear, but have the problem of them dropping out when jacked up, I have seen Lummox's air suspension which looks fantastic, but is a little expensive?? Also in the Caddy forums they talk about flipping the rear axle, but I dont think its possible on a Fun?

I want to lower it about 50mm and am quite happy to change the shocks as well. I mocked up a pic using photoshop to show the look im after.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

IIRC Mk4 golf gti rear springs will give you about 40mm drop without any loose spring issues

Cheers, I did mean to say Mk4 not Mk5. I think I may try those first as they arent too pricey and easily available.

Thanks

I did lower mine - used the golf springs on the rear approach as you mentioned.

However, it was too low for me; the country roads around here really didn't do a car that low any favours, and being a bassist, with my amp in the back it wasn't pretty!

I do have the springs sat in my garage now if your interested tho?

Alex.

A you have said you cant flip the rear axle, its on coil springs not leaf springs.

I would! Luckily this car spends most of the time up and down the A1 with only a little bit of country roads where I live.

Can you PM me?

Cheers

I'd like to claim I knew that already!! I should really stick to my day job and pay someone like you to do all the mods for me :-)
