TV tuner in Columbus

Featured Replies

I haven't tried to play AVI/MPEG files, but the unit normally uses the hard drive for mapping and the DVD drive is free for either music CD's or DVD videos.

Anything new for DVB-T and MPEG2 and MPEG4?

In the Superb catalogue says the following:

"Columbus navigation system: in addition to the functions that are the same as in

the Amundsen navigation system*, it offers a 6.5" high-definition colour touch-screen

display, a navigation DVD in two versions – for Western and Eastern Europe, a 30GB

hard disk (navigation data leave approx. 20 GB of spare capacity which may be used

for storing MP3 or WMA music files), fast calculation of a route and its projection due

to a high-capacity processor and other functions. In combination with a TV tuner,

it also allows watching TV broadcasts or browsing teletext pages.."

Based on the above the internal memory can be used for MP3 or WMA files. What about TV tuner. as per post above I'm not sure if the DVB-T tuner can decode MPEG2 or MPRG4. Any idesa?

I haven't checked prices on these but I could retrofit them for you. I will get some prices and if there is enough interest, perhaps a group buy could be in order?

I am seriously interested too! As most DAB stations I want to listen to are on DVB then that solves that problem with DAB being unavailable with the Columbus.

Any adias for mpeg4 and mpeg2?

Hello everyone,

After an e-mail I have sent to Skoda they reply to me that Columbus with TV tuner is possible to play TV programs DVB-T and that it supports both Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 formats.

Do you need an additional antenna to add the TV option?

  • 1 month later...

so is the tuner integral to the columbus unit and just need to plug in an aerial and update the software

or is the tuner separate to the main unit and needs pluggin in to it and then the software switched on\updated to communicate to it?

I have to say that before buying the TV tuner I have asked directly Skoda (at the factory) if the TV tuner can support MPEG4, as nobody in Cyprus could confirm it or not. They confirmed to me that MPEG4 will be supported.

When I got the car I realised that MPEG4 is not supported. I have communicated again with SKODA and they apologised that it was their mistake they did’t know that it is not supported.

I think we have to make a complain to Skoda Cyprus for selling Tv tuners with limited “liveâ€. I know that a lot of VW and audi owners will have the same problem soon.

Hi

Has anyone worked out whether an aftermarket tv tuner can be added?

I've found this DVB TV Tuner on eBay, but am not sure if it is compatible.

If it is, would the existing ariel be able to provide signal? I think adding a second ariel may be a negative here.

This unit will work but you will need a multi media box as well everything is plug and play, remove the columbus from the dash, insert the media box then plug the 3 colour coded cables into it and on the freeview box that you can place in the glove box then iether run a live and earth to the fuse box or just use the fag lighter for power

Anyone succeeded with this yet?

HI,

New boy here (after 30 years with Renault).

So, what exacty do I need, and what exactly do I need to do to add television to my Superb Elegance Columbus systemn.

Don't suppose this will work with the Bolero ?

You have versions for RCD510 (Bolero). I am thinking about ordering similar thing with GPS. So I would get Bolero which can run TomTom and Garmin :)

That is much better for me than Columbus which doesn't have coverage for Serbia. I am not sure what is resolution of Bolero but for Columbus I think it is 800x400

Cheers Skip, been quoted over £500 by Media in motion!!

Your link for the tuner failed..awe....

How easy is it to remove the Columbus, my car is only 3 weeks old, and I don't fancy pulling it to bits, also found this on ebay

any thoughts?

Dead easy - unclip the front surround and unscrew the four locating screws. The unit should lift straight out. There are threads on here on how to do it.

Cheers, now I have to work out how to get the wires from the rear number plate (for the rear view camera) and all the TV gubbings to the unit without setting off an air-bag...................volunteers????

MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE (A/V ADAPTER) RNS510 MFD3 RNS-510

Link works??? for me

If other countires get a TV tuner as standard, wht can't we but the Skoda box, and just plug it in, using their built in arials etc??????

There are additional aerials fitted to the glass around the car, and the OEM tuner is very expensive. Different countries get different kit, for example in some countries they dont even get a columbus in any model.
