Rear washer. New problem

Featured Replies

The rear washer on my Octy1 does not work:( ... and ... I know there is a lot of post on the subject but please believe me I have searched (and searched again) but most advise is check for a detached hose. Been there done that.

I also tried taking the hose off at the wiper and applying back pressure in case there was a kink/blockage somewhere. No joy there!

The pump works and I get good pressure on front windscreen and headlights.

Now I guess there is an electric valve somewhere that is not working but I cannot see one. Can anyone help??

tried checking the rear well where the cd changer would sit (nearside), under there is a join in the pipe that can slip off and cause the water to pump out under your boot floor making a mess of your electrics too, lift up the carpet to check.

Have you disconnected the hose that has the jets on it that goes from the wiper arm, routes from underneath the plastic wiper arm cover(where the arm is bolted) and travels up the arm to the wiper blade area.

Then try to use rear washer to see if water is making it to the wiper. I say this as if the jets are blocked they won't let any water through them. This was the broblem I had.

On mine there was one of those slip on connectors on the inside of the boot lid and also one a little further back from the one near the cd changer..... only found this out cos i thought it might be a good idea to put a dab of superglue around the one near the CD changer so of course next time the cold weather appeared the other ones came undone:rolleyes:

Yep seen that too. Typically this all stems from blocked jets as when they get blocked the presure builds up and especially in cold weather if the water freezes and you attempt to use the rear washer the presure pops the hoses off the weakiest area. This is normally the hose off the back of the wiper motor, but can be further down the line.

OK. this is my final try before thowing myself off the highest mole hill in East Anglia!

I took the pipe off the nozzle and ran the pump for a good long time. No water came out and the water level in the bottle did not recede. Tried again and after about 2 minutes a slight trickle cam out. Now if memory serves me a little beter than it has done lately there is a washer pump that serves two routes by reversing rotation. My guess is it's one of those and is damaged. My big problem now is getting the kin big bottle out. It looks like a job for the Emergency Services as in removing patient from a crash wreck. A rosey apple and a big wet sticky kiss to anyone who can (will) help.
