VRS engine tapping

Featured Replies

As Fatty says, all the 1.8l and 2.0l VAG 16v and 20v 4s had a cam chain linking the 2 camshafts. It stems from them being a cheap redevelopment of the 1.8l 8v unit when the Golf GTi really needed more power in a hurry.

Cam chain tensioners are quite common across the 1.8T range. Normally only cause a rattle on start up, but i have heard them rattle away all the time.

Quick question though, is the rattle there all the time? does it go away when you press clutch? Faulty dual mass flywheel can be mistaken for a engine rattle sometimes.

No have had an uprated sachs single flywheel and clutch fitted.

Managed to get hold of a Cam Chain Adjuster today brand new OEM for £145. not bad

Just need to get my mate to fit it when he;s got some spare time.

Cheers

Single mass flywheels cause a bad gearbox rattle at idle, when clutch is depressed noise goes away.

Check this isn't the case.
