Advice on buying of used Skoda Fabia (Combi 1.9 TDI Comfort or 1.9 SDI Classic)

Featured Replies

Greetings to all!

Frankly, I can't wait to become one of the true members of this forum. I'm looking for a used Skoda Fabia, and have two options.

1.9 TDI with Comfort equipment (Combi version, 97 kW).

133,000 kilometers (DOP: end of 2002).

1.9 SDI with Classic equipment

77,000 kilometers (DOP: end of 2001).

I know about the performance of TDI engine, but I'm looking for a more reliable car when it's about service and spare parts. I'm not sure about turbo injection in TDI engine, whether it's time to replace it on 150,000 or not (will it go faulty).

Else, what I'm interested in is the comparison on those two's when it's about to drive'em 80-120 km/h. Does anyone have those data for those engines?

Hello and welcome...... TDI for me..... excellent and durable engine.... economical and pretty brisk too

according to some ppl I've met, TDI engine is more economical than SDI? true or false?

I believe the SDI is potentially more economical, but you'd have to make slow progress.

I'd choose the TDI, as I tend to thrash anything low powered.

SDi is also good for its simplicity, however if i could choose again it would be the TDi I would go for. Although the SDi your looking at has a low milage (relatively speaking) and therefore would last ages!

Both good and should last. Neither is high mileage. Choose TDI if overtaking - SDI is slow to accelerate at the speeds you mention, but cruising is no problem for either and impossible to stall the SDI. At slow speeds SDI is a little noisier. SDI simpler and only just run in at 77K. Probably better to look at real condition for abuse or accident repairs. Front suspension is a weak point on all models. Look at window winders for sticking/noises. Look at wear on clutch pedal and try and get an idea of use. 133K on a motorway is a lot less wear than 77K in town. Service history? Was combi private or business owner?

I don't think either model will disappoint once in use. Best of luck.

Form what I've owned and read on here the 2001 MY aint' the best, 2002 MY may have less production line issues, and is a tdi! always a bonus ;)

go for the TDI. if you are not sure, test drive both of them and i know which one you'll choose.
