Scrappage club

Featured Replies

Along the lines of the "High Mileage Club" why don't we start a "Scrappage Club". Post what you scrapped and what you got. Any better deal than the publicised offer?

Thinking about my Octavia 1999 scrappage against Volvo V50

Why, the deals you can get without using the scrappage offer are far better than using it. Selling privately and going in with cash will yield a far cheaper cost to change than using scrappage against a new car. Scrappage discount is taken from RRP on the road price.

Now you can get £3500 off an Octavia, that's better than a retail deal!

That varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Some are offering a fixed 2k off list price , but others are doing much better deals as standard.

Fiat have a price list for all their cars where you can get close to 4 grand off some of them when you trade in an old car , and I've seen similar things from others as well.

TBH I'm totally against the scrappage scheme.

Please give us some examples and advice on achieving such a discount would be pretty good,

Not necessarily. Don't know what my 10.5 year Octavia will be worth with 160000 miles and a couple of faults. I would suspect £500 to £700 if lucky. If someone here wants to make a bid I'm all ears MOT to 27/4/2010

Some of the scrappage deals look poor on cars say 13k plus. Skodas original 2.5k off was very poor. But some sites like Drive The Deal are quoting discounts like £2k OFF previously discounted prices for Passats and 20% PLUS £1300 off Volvos.Volvo dealers giving £4752 Off a £19370 list price V50. Surely that cant be bad? Aunt has just ordered a Kia for £4995 so £2k off the list price of that was pretty damned good. No dealing with punters in a private sale. Making appointments not turning up, wanting to drive your car uninsured, haggling, expecting an old car to be like new and phoning several weeks down the line complaining something has gone wrong with the car you sold them.

I don't really agree with the principal of the scrappage schem. It is NO WAY environmentally friendly but if it makes financial sense for someone and you can afford it grab it I say.
