hmmm have taken a look at Skoda site, doesn't seem to help me, I want a petrol vrs.. I think they have trouble shifting the LE diesels

Duplicate thread from General Car Chat section moved and merged with this one, which is why some posts may be out of context.

That equates to £2500 off list and £1000 from the tax payers. Did Skoda UK implement £1000 price increases when this scheme was announced?

Indeed they did, I think the increase may have been more. They also removed some of the pre scrappage incentives.

the price rise was back in April and was about £400. That was down to the pound's value in Europe, nothing to do with scrap! Some of you guys are always trying to make out that we're all being shafted!

The price hike was a little more than £400 though wasn't it ;)

Out of interest, what's the current finance rates compared to say, 6 months ago?

We are and that is the nature of business. Buy/make a product for as little as possible and sell it on for as much as possible. The strength of the pound v euro has risen almost 10% in the last few weeks but will that be passed on?

You know, I really don't buy into this scrappage bargain crap! So the dealer gives you £3,500 off a top retail price, no other negotiation, why is this a great deal?? Under the current market conditions, without the scrappage scheme you would be able to walk into a dealers, haggle hard with them and negotiate a £3,500 discount on this price range of car in any case, certainly if you played off 2 or 3 dealers against each other! Now they are given £1,000 from HM Gov. so they are actually making more profit than before the scheme, we are not getting cheaper cars, (unless you're one of those people who never dares to haggle when buying new:rofl:)!

A friend of mine who works at a Ford dealer has effectively confirmed this is the case to me also!

I think that's rather optimistic considering the Drive the Deal discount is approx £2K. If you can negotiate another £1.5K discount on top of that then please point me in the right direction......

There was an item on the radio last night saying that some car manufacturers are winding up the finance rates on cars when you take the scrappage deal.

Skoda were highlighted as a particular offender.

Apart from the scraper deal, what about the second hand market, there is an 06 plate DSG tdi hatch for sale locally at £6995 so if you can get one for £8500 new allegedly what will happen to the older ones?????

I bought a new 1.9 Ambient from Telfords in Carlisle last month with £3,500 off list. It is a pre-facelift; cash sale, no trade in, no scrappage scheme. Shop around and haggle; it's a lot of car for £11k!

The whole scrappage thing is a con. Gordon The Moron contributes £1000 towards your new car and you give him back £1500 in VAT when you buy new. A real no brainer - NOT.

And if you buy a new car and don't use the scrappage scheme you don't get Mr Browns £1K....but you still give him his VAT

So?

You'll still be paying VAT if you buy a new car.

Nobody is saying it's the best deal for everyone. If you have an old banger and this deal gets you the new vehicle of your choice for less than it would otherwise have cost then what's the problem?

If you can get a better deal without the scrappage scheme then go ahead and do that instead, but slagging it off for no reason is just daft.
