ASR Issue (Vrs)

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Got a slight problem with the asr. When I've been driving for say 10-15 mins the asr light won't turn off. When I first turn over the car it will turn on and off no problem, and will do every time i restart. Also noticed the asr light will come on if the cars idle for a length of time.

Any suggestions? I can't search asr, sorry if it's been covered before.

hmm interesting this... ive had the same and still not got to bottom of it... on my octy vrs...

so far changed the MAF, and a vacuum hose, but still happens, but only now and again, maybe at most once every 2 or three weeks, and like you say only comes on after so long, for me thats usually just before i get to work, about 20minutes...

Could it be an ABS issue? I'm sure it uses the ABS sensors for wheel speed and it won't know there is an issue until your upto a certain speed i'd have thought.

Next time it happens try to see if the front wheels lock under heavy breaking (obviously on a suitable stretch of road without someone behind you!!) - if they do then the ABS isn't work which would also point to the ABS sensors.

Yeah I could try that I suppose. But it doesn't really explain the light coming on whilst idling. :(

Check all tyres are the same profile and size.

Changed the MAF to a brand new bosch unit to no luck. Tyres appear to be fine. Going to have to pay some attention to the abs then.

I can't see why the Mass AirFlow Meter (MAF) has anything to do with the traction control. (ASR). The only suggestion I have is to take to a dealer or someone with a laptop and VAG-COM software and see if there is any fault codes appearing. If there was a fault with the ABS surely the ABS warning light would come on as well?

had this on one of my Estates (1.9TDi, 100hp)

was ABS sensor.

my light is on all the time too and its due to an ABS sensor, i know this as we broke the sensor when replacing the hub carrier and i've not gotten round to replacing it yet.

means i dont have to bother switching my ASR off everytime i get in the car :D

although the light being on constantly is annoying.
