Oil Light

Featured Replies

My oil light has started to come on whenever I drive.

I checked the oil and it was fine.

But I put a splash of oil in anyway.

It still comes on everytime.

Any ideas?

If your lucky, oil sender pressure switch. Don't drive it till you can have the oil pressure tested by a garage.

And if i'm not lucky?

How much is the oil sender pressure switch? and Is it hard to fit? (I fitted the collent temp sender with no problem)

What happens if i do drive it?

Well, the normal plan is, if the oil light comes on, that can mean trouble. One of the things a car engine needs is lubrication, without that it will heat up and trash the bearing surfaces and eventually seize. When this happens, it could cost quite a lot to fix! One question, does your car engine sound louder than normal - if not then you might just be lucky - do you feel lucky?

Thanks

I haven't really noticed it getting louder so I should be lucky.

I'll take it in asap.

I had the same problem a few weeks back. Oil pressure warning light on but oil level was fine. Easy to test if it's a knackered sender, just unplug the black electrical connector and look for oil in it, there shouldn't be any. If there is it's an easy fix, new oil pressure sender was £6.43 inc VAT from my nearest Skoda dealer, took about 10 mins to change.

Were abouts is that on the engine?

Assuming a 1.4 8v engine, on the front of the engine block, about 5 inches right of the oil filter (not the one right next to the oil filter).

Right.......................

Just checked it and the wire is not evan connected.....

It's snapped right at the start of the sensor??

Any ideas what to do?

Take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

That'll be trickier to fix, I'm not sure how easy the connectors are to re-wire. You may be better off taking it a garage/someone who knows what they're doing.

I can disconnect the wire from the oil switch.

So I believe the oil switch will still work and the problem is the wire.

I no an electrician that might be able to connect the two but it looks tricky as it is right at the end of the wire.

Another case of VAG skimping on wire length me thinks. Easy fix for an auto spark with decent soldering skills.
