Hot-off-the-press: very latest Skoda discounts

Featured Replies

I was in the middle of negotiations for a new Elegance Estate with the 1.4TSI engine and just received this information from Skoda UK via my dealer outlining current scrappage discounts and engine offerings. Hope you find this of interest.

Cheers,

Bill.

We have been informed by the factory that due to high demand across Europe , the 1.4 TSI engines (manual and DSG) on Octavia are strictly limited to five units per week until September (week 36) 2009. We cannot guarantee that all orders will be produced.

We have therefore taken steps to introduce the 1.6 MPI 102bhp on S and SE trims and 1.8 TSI 160bhp engine on to S and SE trims on Octavia hatch and estate. By setting up both the 1.6 MPI and 1.8 TSI we are able to offer a cheaper engine and an upgrade engine, both credible alternatives to the 1.4 TSI.

Further to this we are able to offer a higher level of discount under the scrappage scheme. Both engines will receive the £1,000 from the Government, whilst the 1.6 MPI will have a further £2,000 support for a total discount of £3,000 giving an OTR scrappage price of £8,995. The 1.8 TSI 160bhp will have £2,200 support, offering a total discount of £3,200 for customers (this total discount will apply across all 1.8 TSI engines). There is no change to the retailer terms ie front end margin only.

These engines are now available for ordering. Given the four-month order window for scrappage cars, you may wish to consider contacting your customers that have placed an order for 1.4 TSI engines and offer them one of these alternatives.

In addition, we are able to confirm that we are increasing the scrappage incentive across all 1.9 TDI 105bhp, 2.0 TDI 140bhp and vRS 2.0 TDI CR 170bhp engines. These diesel engines will gain additional support enabling us to offer them with a total discount of £3,500 (includes the Government £1,000 incentive). The vRS 2.0T FSI 200bhp will also benefit with £2,200 support, offering a total discount of £3,200. Please see attached sheets for details.

Please also find attached a new margin calculator that now includes these new engines and the additional support available on the existing engines.

We will be advertising these revised offers in national press and the Škoda website will also be updated to reflect these changes.

Its a pity that Skoda have put 2 fingers up to non-scrappage customers. Dealer offered me NIL discount on a 1.4Tsi elegance - NO DEAL. Cant wait to see what happens when this scrappage crap finishes in 3-4 months time (the government will run out of money) and Skoda UK start begging for real customers.

skodakid- sounds like you are jealous.

Scrappage Envy!

Its only the discount you could get if you negotiate hard plus the £1000 that the government chips in

More fool the dealer that doesnt discount

It was all about timing/luck - placed my order for the Elegance 1.4TSi DSG in Feb and took delivery in May. Someone ordering only 3 weeks later will not get delivery until Oct. (unless Skoda put it back even further ?)

I'm not surprised that there is a big demand for the 1.4 TSi , it is, after all, a great drive.

I've heard a rumour that Skoda will be offering VAT free on Octavias starting at the beginning of July.

Can anyone "in the know" verify this???

Hmm

It's still an additional £1000. Not to be sniffed at if your in a postition to use the scrappage scheme.

The 1.6 MPI is not really that good! about 10 years old for a start.

Really i don't know why VW can't make more 1.4TSI units - people want them and are going to keep on wanting them for next few years as so good. The world's car companies are in a bad way - bar VW it seems "sorry we can't make any more engines right now" go buy French/Opal etc for there small petrol engine must be the answer.

James.

IIRC the 1.4tsi has always had supply problems (it was withdrawn/hard to get in the Golf for a while). Its true that Scrappage in Germany is currently giving VW a massive demand, but I suspect there is some problem with the 1.4Tsi - maybe a production problem or a supplier problem.

Offerring old engines, just reinforces the case there is a problem with the new engines.

I wonder if the 5 per week is per dealer or for the whole UK?

Didn't realise there would be a big demand for a 1.4 petrol engine in the octavia elegance, seems daft spending extra and getting a lupo engine in it.

Thanks. Did your dealer say if the 1.8tsi would be available with DSG (other than with L&K as at present)?

Thanks

I'm waiting for clarification on this from the dealer; as soon as I hear anything I'll let you know. A 1.8TSI DSG would certainly be a viable alternative for me (to the 1.4TSI) if they were to offer it on the Elegance.

Think you are confusing the rather weedy normally aspirated 80bhp 1.4 with the turbocharged 122bhp 1.4TSi. In any case that 80 bhp unit is only available in the new Octavia's basic S trim. The TSi unit not only scores on its extra 42 bhp but the real big plus is with its massively superior torque figures. It is also more economical and has lower CO2 emissions.

There is no comparison between the two engines, they are as different as chalk and cheese - thankfully.

no not at all but bearing in mind you give whatever car you have into the scheme so you lose the value of that

Yes , it's only an extra grand if your old car is worthless.

There's plenty of ten year old cars that are worth that much in a private sale

My car will betraded in as scrappage against a V50 2.0d(worked out 25% OFF list price). The old Octavia will need a few repairs soon and is probably worth £500 on a good day. Thing is not only the £1000 scrap allowance but no hassle of dealing with buyers and all that that can bring. Also no need to coordinate sale and purchase so not left car less.

No mention of the Elegance though.

If they offered the 1.8 for the same price as the 1.4,,,

Just been told by the dealer that the 1.8TSI with DSG will be available in Elegance trim as an alternative to the 1,4TSI because of the short supply of the latter (not sure about 1.8TSI DSG for the "S" and "SE" trims).

The cost difference between the two engines is somewhere around 1200 quid, but if you're using the scrappage deal it works out at 745 quid more for the 1.8TSI with DSG (3200 quid scrappage for 1.8TSI versus 2500 scrappage for 1.4TSI).

Cheers,

Bill.

Currently the difference between the Elegance 1.4 and 1.8 is £1420. They will need to offer some kind of incentive to non-scrappers to take the 1.8 otherwise the backlog will just keep growing.

They are offering an additional incentive for the 1.8TSI; 700 quid extra discount (3200 scrappage for 1.8TSI versus 2500 for the 1.4TSI). So, the price difference ends up being 745 quid more for the 1.8.

Excellent..

Advantage, Me...

Just noticed that in Skoda's car configurator they mark the manual as "1.4 TSI" and the DSG as "1.4 FSI", sligtly of topic but just wondered why?

Because they're wrong, which isn't unusual. They're both the same engine and it's a turbo TSI.

I think Bassa effectively had to rewrite the Skoda UK brochure for them there were so many mistakes.

By the way, it's me who's still waiting for a 1.4TSI which i ordered in mid march. Current build estimate is w/c 15th August (2009, I hope!).

Because it's pants!! It gives wrong prices, misses options off and the details are often incorrect...

You beat me to it Mr H and as far as I am aware they are still in the process of reprinting the corrected brochure, although the online one has now been amended. As to their website's configurator incorrectly showing the 1.4TSi as a FSi unit, doubt they will ever correct that one?

It's still a long wait for you and hopefully no further delays but if it's any consolation, the 1.4 TSi DSG is an absolute gem.
