Paint Cracking

Featured Replies

I purchased an Octavia VRS "06" on a 55plate from my local Skoda dealer around 8mth ago, i've had a few problems with it including an exhaust warning light on dash coming on, i've also had a new steering rack fitted due to noise and i've had a new rear wiper jet, new rear wheel bearing and both front doors re-aligned due to paint rubbing off in the corners. I also had a problem where the protective stickers which are normally fitted underneath the rear door towards the rear wheel arch weren't fitted so i asked if they could fit them when i bought the car. They did, however the did not fit one of them correctly and water got behind it and it started to lift. So i took it back and decided i just wanted them to remove them as it was more bother than they were worth. When they removed them they also pulled the paint off. Therefore i was now needing a paint job on the rear of the car on 1 side. Now around 6 month later and having this paintwork done twice already I have now discovered for the 3rd time the paint is now cracking again in the same place as the previous 2 times which is inside the rear door where they have had to spray into. Yet again i have informed the garage and i'm awaiting a call back after the salesman has spoken to the owner again. Can anyone advise what may be the cause of this and where I stand regarding this. I love the car but i'm completely fed up with trailing back and fourth to this garage and my car has spent countless days with them over the 8 mth i've had it and i'm just waiting on a daily basis for the next thing to go wrong. Any help advice would be appreciated

Sounds like they did a poor paint job.

Have had similar issues with paint rubbing off inside rear doors on the wheel arch area. Reckon the rubber seals are rubbish and will have them change them when I have it in for a service next month. On the superb i recall they were felt like these are hard rubber and the edges have dug in and split the paint. I rubbed it all off at the weekend there and painted it myself. The doors clearly aren't aligned properly even though they were meant to fix it the last time. :(

Suggestion - I've seen some suggestions of oil or gel on the seals but don't see why I should have to.

Once the paint and lacquer has hardened this time I'm going to put some 3M tape over it.

Anyone know how much warranty you get with a repair? Car was out of warranty in january but since they repaired it last Sept with a respray I'm thinking a year?

you sure it hasn't had bodywork before?

If it was a VAG approved bodyshop then the manufacturers paint and body warranty would still apply .The paintwork has a 3 year warranty for defects and a 12 year anti corrosion warranty . Im awaiting a quote to repair my Vrs and also a warranty repair

Can't be certain as I bought it 2.5 years old, but don't suspect so. They tested the paint thickness when in for repair the last time, on the basis they would have refused it if it had been repaired.

New seals required I think. Any ideas to cost anyone?

I'd say Pozza's car has had some accident repair work in its past, I wonder if he did an HPI on it??

Would the skoda dealer not have done this???

Would the skoda dealer not have done this???

They would but only to cover themselves in case of finance on the car etc , they wouldnt tell you if it had a minor accident , nothing to stop you doing an hpi check now though
