2000 Octavia Facelift.

Sorry it's taken me a little while to respond; too much RL going on :(

From what I understand from your part numbers and photos your headlamps are pre-FL (1U1 as opposed to 1U2) with separate external wiring for the levelling motors (the FL version has a different levelling motor which is connected internally to the headlamp) & glass lenses held in place by a series of metal clips.

Does that sound about right?

If so, you would need a left-hand drive headlamp set as replacement - ie not UK, Aus, Japan etc.

I'm a bit puzzled by your indicators, though, as the pre-FL have vertical ribs on the plastic lenses and the post-Fl clear plastic lenses. Yours seem to have a mix of both ribs & clear lenses, or is that just the way the photo is showing them?

I have a pair of pre-FL indicators if they're any good to you. I don't think my pre-FL headlamps are any good as they are for a right hand drive vehicle.

I'd suggest your options are:

1) buy a new set from wherever ($$$)

2) find a recycled set (from Brisky, maybe? We have some members over in mainland Europe. Also maybe eBay). There will be a shipping risk, not just because of the glass lenses but because the pivoted headlamp reflector assembly can break away from the pivot pins inside the housing if handled roughly by carriers (has happened to me).

3) find a set of lenses only and get those shipped along with the seals & clips. This will probably be the cheapest as long as you can find someone who is willing to split the lenses out and ship them.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skoda_Octavia#First_generation_.28Typ_1U.3B_1996.E2.80.932010.29) the pre-FL mk1 was built in Czech, India, Khazakstan & Ukraine so all could be good trawling grounds for spares. VAG has traditionally had a good presence in Brazil but I can't find any references to that for the Octy.

I'll try to upload some piccies in a separate post; pre-FL headlamp & indicator, post-FL headlamp & indicator. If the uploads don't work I can put them on my website for you to download.

That got me thinking. This particular unit has no foglamp but searches on ebay.de for the two part numbers show both right & left headlamps available for the 97-00 L&K at around 75 euro apiece. Don't know about shipping but I have friends in Germany who could forward stuff if needed.

I assume if the lamps are new they will be suitably packed for shipping, but that would be worth a check.

Thanks Mike,

In fact my indicators have 4 ribs as seen, then they become clear plastic. I had never actually noticed the ribs, they blend in. However, seeing as my Octy came with clear glass headlamps, logic would dictate that the indicators would also be clear (my Octy was Czech built, and purchased in Romania). I don't know if the fact that it's an L&K has anything to do with it.

Thanks for the indicator offer - are they clear? I have found a replacement 1U1 headlamp by HELLA, clear glass, for my Octy. Imported final price, about $350 each, so we're getting better. I assume if they have the same code they will have the levelling and all....

There's SKODA in Chile and Ecuador, but the dealer I called in Chile never answered phone or e-mail; and I have nobody in Ecuador to bring me the parts.

Will see what comes up and I'll wait for your pics.

Cheers,

Augusto

Mike, those are exactly my lamps! At 75 EUR it's unbeatable. I could pay another 150 euro shipping (really have no idea how much it could be) and still be about 150 dollars UNDER what I get qouted here.

If your friends in germany could really ship those over to me here, I think that could be a solution!

Let me know please, I assume my Paypal should work... I regularly purchase stuff from the US, and have only once had my non-US paypal be a problem.

Thanks,

Augusto

Hi Augusto

I'll try my limited German on the sellers and see what they have to say about packing, shipping etc. If that fails I can ask a good friend in Hannover to act as intermediary and can then report back.

There are a number of Euro members on here; maybe one of those might be handy too?

BTW My pre-FL indicators are fully ribbed, and the post-FL ones fully clear. If your wanting to replace yours maybe the German sellers could help?

Regards, Mike

PS Whereabouts in Peru are you, in case I get asked by a shipper?

Thanks Mike, please let me know about the german sellers - my german is no longer existant (it was when I went to school in the UK)....

Let's see if any other Euro (maybe Czech) members have any ideas or could lend a hand - I'm new here so I really don't know anybody yet.

As for the indicators, those were qouted here @ a reasonable price, so if I get the headlamps elsewhere, I could get the indicators here so as not to bug too much.

I am in Lima (capital city), Peru.

Thanks,

Augusto
