Sqeaking noise - its getting on my nerves!

Featured Replies

Does anyone out there know what may be causing intermittant sqeaking which is quite loud at times which seems to be coming from below my Fabia ESTATE 1.4 16V ? It is a 'Y'plate which has only done 31,000 miles. I noted from the service history that the car had its front suspension anti-roll bar changed early on at about 20,000 miles. The dealer suspected it was coming from the brake pads and that something had contaminated the surface of these. They cleaned the brakes up about 7 weeks ago...but the squeaking started again on the way back home again. It is driving me mad !!...can anyone advise please ? The car is still under 6 months warrenty from my local dealer which runs out at the end of July and I think it is something they should sort out for us.

Can be caused by dry suspension bushes, and spraying them with white grease stops it. If it's the brakes, doing hard stops from 60 to 10 MPH a few times will clean the discs up (pick a safe bit of road.)

If it happens when accelerating or braking (especially at low speeds) or when travelling over speed bumps, you could also check the console bushes at the rear of the wishbones on the front wheels. These are a common fault - for more information search the forums for 'fabia console bush replacement' and you should find photos of the area I am talking about :).

Turned out to be the edge of one of the rear brake pads/anti-rattle clip which was catching the very edge of the disc intermittently. The rear pads were replaced under my warrenty. No squeaking since....so happy now !!
