iPhone OS 3.0

Featured Replies

Hmmmm, finished backup this time but tells me the iphone activation server is currently unavailable - must be in demand....

If anyone else is getting this problem it seems you can push the update by disconnecting from the Internet after the update has downloaded and your iphone has backed up, during extraction - you'll need to reconnect afterwards to access the iTunes store and activate.

I followed this process and it seems to be working fine (however this doesn't guarantee success on yours).

Hope this helps...

Still no MMS

Bloody O2 and Customer services shuts at 8pm

I think you were all brave trying to download OS3 yesterday. Did think about doing Nicci but thought best not. Server will probably die due to demand. :)

Might leave it till the weekend. Let things settle down.

the firmware has been on demonoid for a week or so now, I am away again at the moment so can't test MMS but flashed it on Monday and no problems. That said I am "roaming" at the moment so it will probably jack in when I get back tomorrow :)

It's the same version that was released yesterday so it may be quicker torrenting it down and then doing a manual firmware update within iTunes if you want it quickly :)

Did both mine and the missus's iPhones yesterday without any problems.

She got the text to say her MMS is up and running, still waiting for mine though despite texting MMS to 1010 3 times grrrrr!

She thinks it's hilarious as she didn't even text once, the lucky sod.

Anyway, I would do it today if I were you, no need to wait.

All us impatient so and so's already done our downloading :D

Cheers

MMS not working on mine payg. Probably due to the demand.

Took around 30mins to download 3.0.:(

I couldn't find 'spotlight' at 1st either.

IIRC you have to change the settings to get MMS on payg.. theres a thing on how to do it on O2s help pages.

I upgraded the loan handset I've been using yesterday evening and got the MMS update text this morning at about 10am.

Other than that , it's all behaving nicely , just in time for me to send it back.

From my point of view the one thing I needed to test was that the .mobileconfig profiles still worked for configuration over the net. Fortunately they do.

Why are all the apple people getting so excited about features that should have been in the first iPhone and have now only made it into the third generation 3gs and some that work on the 3g.

I mean you have to go on an expensive contract for18/ 24 months and pay for the phone too unless you get a v expensive contract.

If you go PAYG you have to pay £440 for the 16GB 3Gs and I really can't see why the phone is worth that much.

Yeah but its the same for every powerful handset.. just take a look on expansys and see how much the ominaHD and n97 are!

Only good thing about the piephone is its residuals.. i could trade my 2yr old 2g iphone in tomorrow for 120quid... i only paid 160 for it originally!

Welcome to last week ;) Good tho isnt it

Agreed on most things, but it's so much more than a phone, and personally, the amount of time I spend sitting in trains / planes and **** ends of nowhere, it's a great little entertainment unit. I don't think my contract with O2 (business tariff) is all that expensive considering my usage. It's not working out anymore expensive for me than my T-Mobile contract did

I really want to hate the iPhone as I don't like apple, but it's the best "phone" I have ever had and there is nothing out there at the moment that makes me go "oooooh" :)

I got the text to say MMS is on at about 4.30pm

I had been sending MMS all day anyway :D

I agree it should have had those features to start with

Its also the only phone I wanted and is fantastic for internet use, and texting.

In fact its fantastic at everything (ok the camera isnt great)

Its just so bloody usable, everything feels perfect.

I know there are other phones out there with more features etc, but this is only phone I actually want, and I would definitely have another one.

I love my iphone, so there :P:D:D:D

Cheers

True, but for the same monthly contract you could get an N97 for less, even free, and can upgrade the capacity with mem cards. How much is a 32gb or 64gb card? ;)

Trying to blag an N97 through work, as they're moving to PDA's for the new call management system.

will be interesting to see what you think of the N97.. given that its pretty much eclipsed by the Omina HD ;)

I dont think I'll be getting an N97, as my N96 is only 8 months old on an 18 month contract.

SWMBO's due in Oct, and is torn between the 2 based on online vids. Sounds like a trip into town to try them both!

Well, ill be giving them both a bash today...

In the big scheme of things the piephone is fairly cheap... 440 vs 499 for the N97 and 599 for the OminaHD

ahhh ****!

well im now the owner of a 3GS lol.. - first impressions are its instantly noticeablely smoother than a normal piephone.. although the screen has a much warmer colour temp than my 2g which makes it look a bit fuzzy.

I had a play with one today and apart from the Camera and The compass i dont really see any difference between my 3G with OS 3.0 and the 3GS. But i may be trying to talk myself out of Upgrading

Or i can just get my Fiancee to get a 3GS and then swap the Sims over :D:D:D
