Recommend me a new Newsgroup

Featured Replies

Giganews have stopped accepting Maestro cards and I ain't putting it on my credit card.

So anyone got any recommendations for a new server.

And a noob question here. Will the server host the same files as giganews???, which I find through newzbin.com. I'm assume it will but I'm a little fuzzy on the whole system really as giganews has always worked for me just fine so I've never needed to look elsewhere.

TIA

Im unaware of any other players out there... giganews take the president with the highest retention anyway.

Why you not putting it on your creditcard?.. thats arguably safer than using a debitcard

I do a little playing 29211.attach:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If I put it on my CC I'll forget and won't pay it as I don't use it often at all.

More alt.binaries.sex.monkey.transvestite eh?

I've always used Astraweb with Newzbin. I don't do that much business so just buy 25Gig at a time. they sometimes have special offers on as well.

Doesnt your ISP offer newsgroups?

Doesnt your ISP offer newsgroups?

Yep but i've never had any success connecting to them :confused::confused:

I was shown giganews by a mate and it's been that way ever since.

I know very little other than how too use it too it's full capabilites ;)

I've never needed too know more until now :)

Depends on your ISP and package. Some restrict newsgroups from users, and require ISP usernames and password to access.

I've never had an issue load nntp.ISP.TLD into OE for myself or family members that have needed it. For everyone else, google groups suffices.

ISPs will carry popular groups, but some obscure/quiet groups might not be accessable.

305 days according too their info, and maybe a shade slower than giganews at 2MBps where as I would get 2.4-5MBps on Giganews. On a 20 meg Virgin btw :thumbup::thumbup:

Only DL'd a small file last night so didn't get chance too see as it D/L'd so quick :rofl::rofl:

Am I missing summat here? The Newsbin app shows a D/L speed of around 9.3Mb/s on a 10Meg Virgin connection for me.

Appologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but have you got the maximum number of connections set at 16 or higher under the "servers" tab on Newsbin? And the Full Speed / Speed Limit tab set to "full Speed" ?

I just get about .half a MB free for some reason..........Always have ????

I'm talking Megabytes here, not Megabits, as in I D/L at 2.3-5 megabytes a second

ooops sorry! I was all discombobulated. These computers will never catch on I tell thee.

I used to use a program called Xnews which was very good and connected through the Virgin server. About a year ago I did something to the computer and I cannot connect any more, I somehow can not use Limewire now either. I use uTorrent now for music.

I can remember once a group with sex and sheep in the title, but I never looked at it, honest! ;) I used to use alt.binaries.music. something, (full_albums, complete_cd, radio.bbc)

Darn my ISP restricted newsgroup access to 1Mbps... i am stuck with bit torrent :(

My brother has started using rapidshare, he swears by it.

how you gettin on with this fatty? thinking of pulling the trigger as my bank have a fraud-fit every time giganews go thru lol

It's all good on the new one, a touch slower than giganews at peak times, but late at night its full speed all the way.

Highly recommended:thumbup::thumbup:
