Ouch, service time.

Featured Replies

Both my Fabia vRS and the missuses Octy PD140 are due a service. As they're out of warranty I'm reverting to DIY, but it's still a bit pricey. Just ordered fuel, oil and air filters, along with 20 litres of 507.00 oil for a painful £220  Still, better than the £330 the dealer wanted just for the Octy service :P

The Furby will be needing some discs and pads too :( as well as a full caliper refurb  I hate Girling calipers :thumbdwn:

£330 seems a bit steep for the main dealer service anyway. I had mine done just before my trip to spain and cost just over £230 for a biggie.

I'll be sticking with dealer servicing as I know the staff at the dealership really well, if only for peace of mind and the stamp in the book/official VAT invoices that always seem to help come resale time.

I guess the bulk of the cost comes down to the oil which is somewhere around £10 a litre for the required 507.01 oil the octy PD140 requires even when on fixed servicing.

Did OK for the oil as Opie have a sale on with 30% off. Worked out at £7.40 a litre. Also, by buying a 20 litre drum I have enough for both cars next service too.

Our Octy is on the variable servicing, and they said the next one was all filters and oil. They probably want to do the brake fluid and coolant too, but that's just overkill to generate work for themselves IMHO.

According to Opie Oils....

VW 505.01 oil

The oils in this section meet the VW 505.01 specification. These oils are especially for "Pumpe-Düse" (unit injector or "PD" engines) running on fixed service intervals (15' date='000km / 12 months).

It is vitally important to use an oil meeting either this, the VW 506.01 specification or the VW 507.00 specification to avoid damaging the diesel pump in PD engines.

For PD engined cars with a DPF, use only an oil meeting the VW 507.00 specification.

[b']VW 507.00 oil[/b]

The oils in this section meet the VW 507.00 specification. These oils are suitable for almost all VAG diesel engines from 2000 onwards with extended service intervals, unitary injector pumps and also Pumpe-Düse ("PD") engines.

Excludes V10, R5 engines and VW Commercial vehicles without fitted DPF (diesel particulate filters) – these must use a 506 01 specification oil.

Serviced both cars on Tuesday, absolute doddle. Had a diesel leak when the fuel filter seal didn't sit right on the Octy, spraying a couple of litres out before the missuse noticed and pulled up. The Fabia needed some pads too, which reminded me how much I hate crappy Lucas/Girling calipers. Took 2 hours compared to the 25 minutes it used to take on my old Subaru.

just had my 30k done at the dealers for less than 100 notes....

Well, DMK in Leeds wanted £330 for the Octy on its second variable, stating it was all filters and the oil. I spent £33 on oil and another £30 or so on the filters, and it took me about an hour. The Fabia was the same for oil, but less on the filters as I have a Green air filter which I cleaned and reinstalled. So, £50-65 for each car and about three hours of my life, plus another 2 hours doing the pads, which cost me £30. I've always enjoyed DIY servicing, and as my Dad was a fully qualified mechanic for over 40 years, he came along to babysit the little'un and observe, FOC of course. Job done, money saved, a little pride in achievement too.
