1.4Tsi discontinued?

Featured Replies

We all know that new Octavia 1.4Tsi variants are already on long delivery (20+ weeks) and there is a fax in circulation around Skoda dealers restricting new orders to 5 per week (don't know if that is per dealer or for entire UK), but I just read a post on HJ who said he had been told that the 1.4Tsi had been discontinued and is no longer available on the Octavia.

Can anyone confirm? Maybe this information is unreliable - could just be a dealer refering to the shortage, or indeed it may the basic 1.4 80bhp that is being discontinued (hello 1.2Tsi?).

Guess we'll find out something when the July pricelist comes out. (and something about the 1.6 CR diesel)

I haven't heard anything from the dealership I'm currently working with regarding discontinuation of the 1.4TSI.

However, they did tell me several weeks ago that levels were limited to five per week and I'm surmising that this is for the entire UK (not per dealer) since they also told me that they had four existing orders ahead of me and hence my order would be SSSSLLLOOOWWW. I'd have to check their e-mails but, from memory, I think they said the log-jam should be cleared by September-time.

If this engine is in such demand, I assume that dealers are not discounting it. So, would a 1.8T be cheaper with discount?

I know the smaller engine would be more efficient but it would take a lot of miles to make up even a few hundred pounds of saving on the initial capital cost.

Steve

I'm hoping to use the scrappage discount scheme where the 1.4TSI works out about 700 quid cheaper than the 1.8TSI.

The demand for 1.4 TSi units is so great that VAG cannot keep up pace. Delays for it are across the board, be it Golf, Octy or Leon and no doubt it is the Golf's demand that is the main culprit. Adding certain factory fit options or even certain colours can exacerbate the delays even further - a sunroof for example usually being the classic case in point.

Wait - it's well worth it!

There may be a de facto temporary discontinuation, as there was with the mk5 Golf a year or so ago when they couldn't meet demand, but it wasn't permanent as we know. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1.4 80bhp were discontinued, especially as they have reintroduced the 1.6mpi 102 bhp as an alternative to the 1.4tsi.

In the meantime, I've just ordered a 1.8tsi dsg Elegance, now that that combination has finally become available in the UK. I was considering both the excellent 1.4tsi and the 140 TDI if it had become CR, but in the end there was too much uncertainty about the availability of both, and I was happy with the deal on the 1.8.

Now I've got to be patient till September!

[Congratulations, at least your patience has been rewarded with the Elegance 1.8 TSi DSG now being available in the UK which I'm certain will prove to be an excellent choice. I know you have reported following your test drive with the 1.4 TSi DSG but have you tried the 1.8 version? What options/colour have you specified and do you have a build week yet?

Just hope VAG do not run into the same supply problems with the forthcoming 1.2 TSi when it goes into the Polo, Yeti - and probably Fabia/ Ibiza etc.

No need to quote previous post.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to do that.

There is a legal requirement for the dealer to deliver the car within 4 months of the customer placing the order.

As I dealer, I would take the order, but if 4 months expires, before the car is ready for delivery, I would not be able to supply it on the scrap scheme. Unless there's a loophole that I've not found yet and I have been looking!

Thanks for the heads-up; I wasn't aware of that loophole in the scheme.

I'm sure I'll be equally happy with the 1.8TSI

I ordered a 1.4tsi SE estate on 08/06/09 using the scrap scheme and by the following Friday my dealer informed me that Skoda would not be able to honour within the 4 months.

I was given the option of the 102hp 1.6 or the 1.8tsi.........I sat on it for a week and then opted for the 1.8 as the insurance was minimal for me.

Waiting for the 1st September now.

I have followed this discussion group for about 2 months now (in anticipation of ordering the 1.4tsi) as it is better informed than the 3 dealers I have been to see(unless they play dumb of course!).

The 1.4 is in short supply as VW Golf buyers are opting for this engine.

I bet VW are telling Skoda - tough, our customers come first.

Yep, pecking order.

Ah, I remember you from Civinfo a while back, I had the EX i-Shift - do you still have the Civic or like me have you gone over to Skoda?

The July brochure is out. The 1.4 TSi 122bhp, as anticipated, remains the same, i.e. available in S, SE & Elegance trims.

The 1.4 80bhp remains available in base S trim only.

Yep, pecking order.

Afternoon

Still got the EX i-shift (horrible gearbox) (suspension is chronic as well) and I'm in line for changing circa March 2010 (or sooner if the right deal comes along).

The L&K DSG is definately on the list.

Got fed up with all the Civic problems/recalls - rear suspension, fuel pump, that pesky filler flap, poor paint, threat of a roof respray due to a faulty windscreen seal etc etc. Hated the i-Shift in auto mode but okish in sequential.

I'm one of the privileged few who have actually got hold of the 1.4 TSi DSG and loving it.

The i-Shift versus DSG - no contest. Civic versus Octavia - no contest.
