Fabia (optimal) Tyre width

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm a really happy owner of a 1.4 16V @ 116Bhp Fabia, 2k3 Model. I currently run on 205 45 R16 Tyres and I was wondering if 195 45 R16 would be a better match for my setup. It's 30mm lower than a stock fabia. So will I lose alot of grip changing to 195? I thing that it will be a bit faster in general due to less friction (=> less road resistance), I am certain that it will be alot cheaper (100Euros or so) but will I lose grip while cornering? Will this be noticable? I currently own Avon ZZ3 205 45 16 83W and I'm looking for something better.

Thanks in advance,

psou

wider is better, and the resistance isn't a big difference, incorrect tyre pressure would have a bigger effect on the contact on the road,

just my opinion but stick with the wider tyre

The extra width wont be noticable in the corners, as the wider you go the less ground pressure you will have, resulting in less grip. To maximise on the width you need more downforce. So save up for a big spoiler

Might be worth trying 215/40 R16? Lower profile would give marginally better feel through the tyres due to sidewall stiffness.

Find better tyre - I found the Avon ZZ3's to be poor when hot and in the wet.
