My Dealer Talking B#llock's?

Featured Replies

Just got the vRS back from dealer, went in for the "grinding" noise from the back. He said every Fab vRS does it and Skoda UK know about it but dont know why it does. Are they right in that only Fab vRS do it? Is he right in that Skoda know about but cant/arnt doing anything about it?

Another thing: While their we asked about fitting McGard locking wheel nuts, sub and aftermarket discs and pads all round. He said if we fit the locking nuts, sub and discs/pads then that will invalidate the warrenty  So, do we contact Skoda UK about the wheel nuts etc or what? Are they talking *******s or is this a VAG thing?

It will invalidate your warranty officially.

However, most dealers aren't idiots (believe it or not ;) ), and if something isn't related to a change you've made, they'll honour the warranty if it's obviously manufacturing/material defect.

Suspect all car manufacturers are the same, they're just protecting their interest as they don't want to have to pay for things that other people have broken!

Rob.

You get used to the grinding noise.

what if they fit the parts for me? Would have the disc/pads fitted on its firtst service so thought that if they fitted them their wouldn't be any problems with it, but, dealer said disc/pads won't need changeing for 3 years anyway!

Vikki,

It's up to you when you change components...as was said above, offically if you change anything thats not oem your warranty is dead...your dealer will have some flexibility if he is wise enough. Re the brakes, you could argue if you increase your braking potential other parts maybe stressed more as a result, you can see where I'm going. If your radiator cracks it's clearly not related, unless you follow a very tenous link, akin to a butterfly flapping it's wings in Asia. So that should be replaced.

The short of it is, they are stating the facts, all manufactureres do it, Subaru, if you so much as point it in the direction of a pit lane and they find out your on your own, bye bye warranty, or so I've heard...

I've had the odd bit of work done despite huge modifications to the car, why? Not related or logged pre change.

Hope that helps, maybe the reviews section can assist you in finding a more approachable dealer?

Afterall why would anybody want to improve there car piff paff tuning. ;)

Forgot to say 3years is a long time ;) I did mine after 12months and a few others quicker than that, but 120k in 20 months means you need to :D

sorry but how does fitting locking wheel nuts and a sub invalidate your warrenty?

the back brake pads are a known thing with the fab vrs. they pretend they know nothing cos a full recall would cost them a fotune!

Tom.

I guess it would then if they've got to change the rear stoppers on all 'VAG' cars.

One thing that worries me though, does this in anyway affect the operation of the rear brakes?

They wouldn't recall it as its not a safety related item. The fact that the rear pads stick a little when its been parked up will not constitute a massive campaign. At best all it would get is a service bulletin at your dealer. It can be helped by making sure you have the latter spec adhesive backed pads which are chamfered and everything is free and greased with copper slip.

As for the locking wheel bolts be very carefull when buying after market ones. If you get the incorrect length bolt it can do alot of damage to the hub and they may not be secure. Also why do you want a set? Not enough faith in the standard security bolts?

With regards to the noise from the rear, my local dealer also told me that all vRS's suffer from the same problem. It is of my opinion that the noise is not generated from the brakes, but it is the rear subframe resonating due to high frequency vibrations generated as a result of stiffer bushes and probably a harder pad compound - hence why the problem seems to be confined vRS's only.

I have found it is possible to get the noise even without applying the brakes when reversing at very low speeds (i.e. 2mph). As per the previous response, Skoda have taken the decision not to recall any vehicles because a) it is not a safety critical issue and does not affect braking performance and B) would cost to much money. However, as it is a customer **** off factor you (we all!!) are entitled to have it put right under warranty although I guess a fix hasn't been engineered yet hence our dealers responses.

They said fitting a sub (as in Sub Woofer, right??) would invalidate your warranty?

What a load of cobblers.

Dealers need to remember that they make a lot of money out of warranty repairs.

Is this thhe noise I'm experiencing on reversing? - mine often sounds like a cow mooing when i brake gently in reverse?

That's the noise.

I'd said it was like someone blowing a note on a bottle but the cow is better.

Its been covered many times before, there is a VAG mod that was done some time ago that uses rubber dampers mounted on the caliper to absorb the vibrations, I only saw the kit for the Audi A3 (same rear brakes) and havent been able to find the numbers or supplier for the parts.

I was told that Skoda knew about it in June and that a fix was 7 weeks away.

Usual Skoda bullsh*t. :(

Hehe

I think it sounds like a cow too!

Moooooooo

my brakes stank today, is that cause they are new?

Er ... you are replacing approved Skoda components with non-Skoda components..... check the small print in your warranty ;) However, it will be down to the dealer's discretion and you might find they will carry out warranty work on parts of the car which are still standard, but at the end of the day, can you afford to risk it....? :D
