Polishing machine???

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Had a crack at detailing the car yesterday, got as far as the wax, then realised I purchased a 'wax booster' so far I am pleased with the result but I think I should of clayed the car, my question is, I want to use a machine to complete the job, I am very competant with power tools, so I think I will be ok with a rotary polisher, opinions would be appreciated on this and the polisher in the attached link.

Thanks in advance, Lee.

p.s I spent 2 hours the other night going through baker21's threads on detail world, awesome buddy, just wish I lived near you, it would save me a lot of trouble.

There was another thread on machine polishing recently which is well worth a read and has plenty of links - http://briskoda.net/styling-car-care/machine-polishing/149782/

In my opinion using a rotary would be a very brave move as a beginner.

Even the "awesome baker21" hasn't graduated to them yet I believe!

I'm not an expert, far from it, but i started with a kestrel DA..can't really go wrong with that..i've since added one of these, and find it really good too..got mine new from flea bay for £37

I think the best move would be to use a Kestral DAS-6, cheap and very efficient imo!

Although it wont remove the deepest defects in the paint, it will make them less noticable.

I used a Rotary on a resprayed panel with 300microns including the laquer, although i didn't take readings after. I didn't burn through the laquer, but took some mastering to get a good finish with it.

Thanks for the advice, just invested in the Kestrel DAS-6 with 3 x Megs pads and microfibre cloth for £99, will post the results as and when........cheers.

Yeah spot on Andy, my first experience was with a Rotary and I stepped back to a DA to perfect that art first but I need to move on shortly but I am just having some good results at the moment with the new 'Kevin Brown Method' on a DA.........

Ok, I admit, I looked at one thread with a rather nice 'little helper' on display (denim hot pants, ugg boots, you know the 1 I'm sure), then spent the next 2 hours trying to find more pics...... plus it was either that, or visit the in-laws with swmbo!! :)
