Newbie. Octavia Servicing Questions

Featured Replies

I am in my first year as a Skoda owner and loving it. I purchased the Octavia 1.9 TDi 110 bhp elegance last July. It had done 36000 miles. I am about 4 months away from completing a further 20000 miles taking it upto 56000 miles (don't mean to insult anyone's maths there!). Unfortunately though the Skoda dealer I purchased the car from has been replaced by a Citroen dealer!. I'm trying to find out what sort of service I will need when its due.

From what I remember about being told when I bought the car is that it's every 20k or 2 years. I phoned the nearest skoda dealer today who told me that I should really have the cambelt replaced as part of the service. He quoted £225 for the service, and £385 for the cambelt.

Does this sound right? Do I need the cambelt replacing? Prices seem reasonable? Not sure if it included changing the water pump at the same time, but I will enquire about this. Is there anything else worth getting replaced whilst the cambelt is being done?

Thanks

The cam belt should be 80,000 miles on the mark 2. Welcome :)

welcome

Hiya.

Isn't a 1.9TDi 110 a mark 1 rather than a mark 2, in which case I think the cambelt is overdue, and service intervals are either 10_000miles/annual, or variable (car tells you when it needs serviced based on oil condition and how you drive).

I'd check out the Review Centre for a Skoda dealer nearish to you, and ask them presuming you have a Skoda service history up to you bought the car.

Thank you for the updates so far. The car did have skoda service history when I bought it which seems to have been done every 2 years, first service was done after 10000 miles, second service 2 years later on 22000 miles and then the 3rd service when I bought the car last year when it was on 35800 miles. The Service indicator went off in the car when I reached 37000 miles. I phoned the dealer who said that it hadn't been updated probably, and told me how to reset it. It hasn't gone off since and I am nearly 13000 miles further on. I found a bit of paper last night where the dealer scribbled down every 20000 miles or 2 years. I might phone another dealer and see what they say. Any other advice welcome.

UPDATE for anyone interested...

Managed to find another dealer who tracked down my history for the vehicle. It's on the long life servicing schedule, which is every 2 years or 20000 miles. So that's one issue sorted out. The other issue surrounding the cambelt - he explained that originally skoda recommended replacing the cambelt every 6 years. They have now reduced that to every 4 years. Also, the service indicator on the car is set up to reflect what was set up when the car was new. If your not on the long life servicing schedule, the service indicator will go off every 12 months or 10000 miles whichever comes first.

Regards
