Front parking light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got defective front left parking light on my vRS. Thanx to the Briskoda member Mater's  instructions I've pulled out the headlight unit, but I was not sure I want to unscrew the back cover of xenons where I suppose the parking light bulb would be.

1) Am I correct that I need to unscrew that cover to change the bulb?

2) Should be there any "click" after you reinstall the headlight unit and push back in that black hook? I have a feeling that the hook is not in it's right position.

Thanx folks for your comments

Yes, it should snap back in, but, on the left light there is a wiring loom you can catch underneath and mess the alignment up. To make things worse it will be a pain to pull the light housing back out if you caught the loom under it.

Re the xenons, don't know, I have the halogens.

If your talking about the back of the headlight and the big plastic cover that is on there yes you need to remove it.

The parking light bulb will be in the top left corner as you look inside the light unit (with the headlight orientated as it would be if back in the car) Its held in by a small plastic holder that has 2 clips you have to press in either side. I had to use a pair of long needle point pliers to get access.

You then just pull the holder out and swap the bulbs over (W5W) is what you need.

When you put the headlight back push the whole unit back in until the screw thread (for the white nut to go back on) is protruding through the whole. Then pushing gently on the front of the light push the hook in aswell. You will see the light move back in to it's correct position. You can then tighten up the nut.

There is no click. you will know if its in right because if its not the light unit will either not be seated correctly or you will still be able to pull it out.

Any probs PM me

Changed my bulbs recently using numerous instructions on here, thought it was going to be tricky but was a piece of cake in the end, as Mater says Long-nosed pliers are your friend!

thanks folks

from the Mater's overview with pictures I assume that regular lights have plastic back cover held by two metal clips, but xenons have the same clips plus at least two screws.

this evening will try to "operate" my octy again

sorry, had the question about the bulb itself - if I ask in the shop for W5W is it enough to get the right bulb?

Yes the sidelights in most cars are W5W

thanx man a lot

found a pack of W5W bulbs at home and started the operation :D

well, I've never imagined that changing parking lights could be so dificult, but I managed it, of course with the help of neighbour's surgeon scissors :D since I've not got long-nosed pliers.

thanx again

... forgot to say that the wire connector (plug) for my octy's headlight unit is different from the one Mater had showed in his pictures and it took me some time to figure out how it should be disconected properly ;)
