vRS: Which mods (if any) and what order?

Featured Replies

I've had my vRS now for about 6 weeks and am enjoying it a lot  Usually dont get over 12 months (or even 6  ) without swapping cars but determined to stick with this one, to keep me interested though I'll have to start thinking about mods.

I've been reading a lot of good stuff on this site and here's my thoughts at the moment on what to buy (over a long period though, getting married and having a large mortgage are taking their toll :( ) -

Advanced driving course?

Milltek twin pipes - for the looks as much as performance/sound

Green panel filter

Revo remap

Quality tints

17"s ??

Suspension etc

Brakes?

Suspension/handling I thought I'd tackle first depending on price, although I agree with some on here that its pretty good as standard and it might be best to hone my driving skills first? Just purely based on looks I think I should lower it  so options are (i) 17"s + strut brace, arb etc or (ii) new springs and dampers????

Has anyone deliberated on these options and come up with a good solution?

Cheers for any help.

RE: Advanced Driving Course...(and saving some money!)

A few years back I had to visit Caterham Cars to borrow some dampers to test, and in the discussion with one of their engineers, he commented that when someone came to him with

Strut brace

Brakes

Suspension

Remap

Zorst n filter..

in that order

you can get the remap before the suspension, but it will just highlight how much the std suspension cant cope and spoil your fun :D

Different car but...

DV, filter, TIP and other hoses. This just builds the tension.

Remap. God, it's worth the wait.

ARBs. A concession to 'handling'.

Downpipe, cat and system. The icing on the cake.

Tarty cosmetic mods because you've got a digital camera.

It worked for me.

Zorst n filter..

If i was doing mine again, that's pretty much how i'd do it.

However i'd do the exhaust & filter before the remap.

Now, suspension...

Agree with Colin G on this one with the exception of doing the exhaust and filter before the remap.

Cheers guys, seems to be a common theme here - I'm getting the jist

Is that a real word, jist?!

but the best way to do it (if pockets are that deep) get it done all at once :D

the reason ive put zorst at the end, as its probably the most expensive in terms of

Col,

Better to leave do the zorst & filter first... Then, when you get it re-mapped & dyno'd, you know what the total effect is, rather than always wondering and having to get another RR session done ;)

Oh... and dont forget to budget for a new clutch too :D

Does this order stand for road use only ie no track days etc?

Driver training, at least then you'll know how to use the rest of the mods "properly"! :D

Dont forget "go-faster strips" - worth at least 4 BHP and a stick on chrome petrol flap cover.

Your all wrong. First mod should be BRISKODA.NET sticker in the rear window :D

Then after that.

Don't forget the Feu Orange :)

I thought it was the tree-shaped air freshner that gave the most peformance increase ;)

I've done brakes first on my fabia vrs. Don't regret it in the slightest :)

Not sure if I'm going to play with suspension - it's certainly not super firm on OE springs / dampers, but it's a very nice comfort compromise for motorway cruising :)

strut brace is next and will no doubt be followed by a Remap of some form or other ;)

Xav... youll reconsider suspension after driving someones with uprated suspension.... i *ahem* know someone with a full eibach vRS setup on their Fabia.. and he says that its improved handling immensely and not affected the ride as much as others have said
