milltek exhaust knocking

Featured Replies

hi all you skoda lovers.

havent posted for a while, probably cause my vrs has been running sweet as a nut, but i do have one problem now tho , i had a milltek cat-back fitted at a garage about 3 months ago, the exhaust sounded lovely purred like a kitten, but now every time i pull up in my drive or leave the car on idle it knocks against the bumper, when i had the car serviced and mot recently one of the guys did say it did rattle and was a tight fit, has anyone else had any exspirences like this with this type of exhaust, and can anyone give me any ideas on how to fix it, bare keeping the rev's up all the time :):):)

Hi Trev

With the majority of exhausts , they can sometimes need a bit of adjustment after they have been fitted a while

Take it back to the garage and ask them to adjust them

When we fit them , we tell people that this can happen , and do get these back in to do that adjustment on them

What size is this system? The 2.5" or 2.75"?

They have sufficient room going over the axle and can be easily adjusted on the U-bolt clamping the 'up and over pipe' to the back box...

Should be a 5 minute job.

If it is proper f*cked replace it under the warrenty.

Strange I did not think there was adjustment as the exhaust fits together then is held up by none adjustable hangers. So the only real change to movement would be by either undoing the u clamps and pulling apart the connection slightly to make the tail pipe sits out further, or undoing the center section u clamp to twist the center rear box down away from the bumper. However doing this may make the exhaust sit un level, depending on tail pipe design.

Could you have hit the exhaust bending the hangers, so it sits too close to the bumper?

The exhausts when up to temp can expand quite alot

IIRC it can be a couple of inches longer when hot compared to cold

So it can expand width way too

So just loosen the clamps and adjust back , then all should be good

We do this FOC to customers that have had their exhaust fitted by us

I fitted a miltec 2.75" turbo back on my vRS and also had a problem with it knocking on the rear bumper.

The rear mounting is a little to flexible "side to side" to stop the twin exit pipes contacting the bumper.

I used some 1/4" thick rubber (old HGV mud flap) and cut it into a small triangular (ish)shape and secured it on the inside of the rear mounting with 3 cable ties. It does not carry any weight and does'nt adversly effect the mounting but does reduce side movement.
