Vulcan pics from Sunday

Myself and Chris ran away early from the meet at Gaydon but with good reason.

Less than 10 miles from Gaydon is XM 655 which is an operational but non-flying aircraft.

Not many but quality non the less.;)

Brilliant photo's - wish I'd known about that....

Great pics.

Out of interest, what does "operational but non-flying" mean?

It can taxi up the runway but not take off.;).

Nowt wrong with going up and down runways :D

I went to the Yeovilton Air Day on Saturday and the Vulcan was due to display but had "technical difficulties" and couldn't fly.

It also failed to show last year at the Bournemouth Air show.

Is this the same one as there is only one flying example left ?

Amazing piece of kit. Can't wait to see it in the air at this years Bournemouth Air show (technical difficulties allowing:D)

Cheers guys. Have a look around here. 655 Maintenance & Preservation Society

Especially in the photos section Vulcan XM655 MaPS Support Group and the 2 Vulcans nose to nose. ;)

Not mine by the way.

is 655 the one at Wellsbourne Ian?

I remember seeing it years ago when I was on a course at Kineton and used to go off to the big open air market there.

Thats the one. Should have said it was Wellesbourne.:o

We got one too, it's at Southend airport, again only for taxing up the runway.

And there was me thinking there was only the one left and it seems there are loads of them up and down the country! Common as muck!

If you stick 24 Hour Vulcan Scramble into Google Maps you can see where all the remaining ones are.

Love the third shot Ian - wide angle makes it look more like Concorde than a Vulcan
