Octavia DSG ESP Options

Featured Replies

Do you get ESP when you buy a DSG?

It says in the brochure that the 1.4 TSI DSG comes with ESP so it makes sense for all the 1.4/1.8 TSI DSG models to have it as well!

I was going to add ESP anyway but for another £600 could get DSG as well.

Is it correct that if you buy a 4 or 3 spoke steering wheel with the audio controls it includes the maxidot computer as well and you don't have to buy it seperately?

Thanks!

You don't get the full ESP package unless you shell out for it at £365. What you do get is ABS + MBA + MSR + ASR. The extras get you EDL + HBA (what ever that is)

Yep, the MFSW comes with Maxi-Dot included.

Yes, the 1.4TSI, DSG certainly comes with the full ESP and hill-hold features as standard.

As for the 1.8TSI, DSG I'm not so sure. I asked my dealer about this, but never received a response. You would think it would be standard too, but I'd definitely want confirmation from Skoda UK.

The TSi engines with DSG all have standard ESP and Hill Hold.

As stated, the Multi Function SW includes the Maxidot (normally a £125 factory fit option) as standard.

I have been advised by my dealer that the 1.8 tsi dsg does come with esp and hill hold

I recently ordered an Octavia 1.8 SE DSG with ESP. The 7/09 brochure seemed to indicate this was standard on the 1.4 DSG but not on the 1.8 SE DSG. My dealer checked on their computer and confirmed this was correct, as did Skoda UK when I telephoned them after reading this thread.

If a dealer has said that ESP is standard on the 1.8 DSG SE or Elegance, I think it woud be advisable to check directly with Skoda UK as gr8britwjh suggested. Otherwise it might be that the car would be delivered without ESP, at which stage the dealer would probably be reluctant to rectify the situation.

Anyone know what all these abbreviations mean - I did some googling before and couldn't really get an answer...

Starting with the ones I'm pretty sure of:

ABS = anti lock brakes, adjusts braking at each wheel to stop them locking up, giving steering control while braking

MBA?

MSR?

ASR = Skid reduction - cuts power to the engine when it detects that the driven wheels are skidding under acceleration (My car has this - does this mean it has MBA and MSR?)...

EDL?

HBA?

If you look at the end of the Skoda brochure, there's a glossary of terms and most/all of these acronyms are explained (looked at these myself the other night but can't remember them now, sorry).

As darrenw has stated & I've checked this against the July 2009 Octavia brochure, which I've downloaded ESP is an optional £365 extra on the 1,8 TSI DSG Elegance.

ESP is only standard on the vRS, 4x4 Scout, L&K

I know that's what the brochure states but there are still conflicting reports about ESP/hill hold being standard on the 1.8TSI DSG. It doesn't make sense to have it on the 1.4TSI DSG and not the more expensive 1.8TSI DSG.:(

Maybe UK 1.8TSI DSG owners could respond to this thread (not L&K owners where ESP is unambiguously standard equipment); was ESP standard equipment or did you have to shell-out 365 quid for it?

I shelled out the £365 for it, if it's found to be unnecessary then I'll be asking for £365 worth of accessories, such as Mud flaps, F&R mats, Boot liner & Steel Spare for starters.

Do not take the brochure or Skoda UK's customer services as gospel !

Having been through this in the past, initially the brochure did not list the 1.4TSi DSG as having standard ESP & Hill Hold, which of course it does.

Remember the 1.8 TSi DSG, for some strange reason, was only available in the UK on L&K trim. It was customer dissatisfaction with the lengthy delays on the 1.4 TSi DSG that caused Skoda UK to make the 1.8TSi DSG available in the UK on SE and Elegance trims, although it had been available in other countries in those trim levels.

As far as I know, the ESP & Hill Hold are both standard with all dry 7speed DSGs throughout the VAG group.

Further to mine of 26/8, I have now taken delivery of my Octavia 1.8 DSG and have paid the extra charge for ESP. From the 7/09 brochure I did not expect Hill hold to be fitted, but it was.

The new 10/09 brochure shows ESP as standard on both the 1.4 and 1.8 DSG . This seems to me to add weight to Bassa's contention (27/8) that ESP has always been standard with the 7 speed DSG.

Has anyone bought an Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG, SE or Elegance, as a factory order under the 7/09 brochure pricing structure, without electing to pay extra for ESP? If so, please could you say whether or not ESP was in fact fitted as standard?

Hi

I ordered on 28/09/09 (quoted build date week 48) a 1.8tsi SE DSGg estate and have not specified esp so will let you know in due course what turns up - presumably I will know by a esp button somewhere as understand esp normally switchable?

Cheers

I believe the MFSW comes with a multi-function display but not Maxidot, since Maxidot is listed as on optional extra on all models. Mine calls itself MFD.

I'd trust Bassa's word before Skoda UK any day. Back when we ordered our 1.4TSI's DSGs (feb/march) Skoda UK's information was even more inconsistent/ambiguous than it is now. I reckon it was our questioning that prompted some of the corrections to the brochure.

I don't know how many times I asked the exact same questions about ESP, hill hold and maxidot. Never got confirmation from Skoda UK.

Just insist the dealer writes on your order form " including ESP" (and cover any other ambiguities).

No, MFSW definitely comes with Maxidot, at least mine did (delivered last month, MY2010 car). It's not clearly explained in the brochure (and don't even bother looking at the online configurator!). MFD is the general term for the trip computer, which in non-maxidot equipped cars has a smaller display.

Out of interest, did you order Bluetooth with the car?

Out of interest, did you order Bluetooth with the car?

Nope, got the three spoke wheel with radio controls and DSG paddleshift but not Bluetooth.

I have just taken delivery (8th Oct ordered 4th Aug from the July Brochure) of a 1.8TSi DSG Elegance and can confirm what Bassa said. ESP was standard on 1.4 and 1.8 DSG's.

I chose not to put ESP on the order having been told by my dealer* (after discussion with Skoda UK) that it was standard and was very happy to note that my car was fitted with ESP and Hill-Hold.

* Note - another dealer I went to rang another part of Skoda UK and was told that ESP was not standard - I ended up siding with Bassa and am glad I did not pay the extra £365 for what was standard! Get your money back!

I also ordered the MFSW (non bluetooth) with paddles and it was supplied with Maxidot. My first new car for 15 years and what a beauty!

As I started this thread I thought I would add that my 1.4 TSI DSG came with an ESP Off button so I assume I have it. Hill hold certainly seems to work as well!

Many thanks to all who replied to mine of 23/10. The information supplied was extremely useful and proves beyond reasonable doubt that the 7/09 brochure was wrong and that 1.8 tsi 7 speed DSG. SE and Elegance Octavias have always had ESP as standard, as BASSA has maintained.

I think it would help me to get a satisfactory reply from Skoda if I knew of as many cases of ESP being fitted as standard as possible, so should be grateful if Kentishman could still confirm that ESP was fitted when his car is delivered, as he kindly offered. Please can anyone else also confirm ESP was standard on a car as above bought at the 7/09 brochure price?

I've asked both the dealer & just emailed SUK about this subject (ESP) asking for a definitive answer, but neither has been able to do so as yet.

In fact my dealer thought the 1,8 came with a 6 speed DSG box!

Got a phone call today from SUK & they have confirmed that ESP comes as STANDARD on DSG equipped Elegances & L+K's.

So it looks like I'll be having a bit of money back then!:orb_cool:

Indiana, re yours 9th Nov, congratulations on getting a positive reply from Skoda which is good news for the rest of us who have paid extra for ESP - thank you.

Just to be sure, presumably the person who 'phoned you meant that ESP has always been standard from the introduction of DSG for SE and Elegance models in the 7/09 brochure, and is not just referring to the present position (as correctly shown in the 10/09 brochure as per my post of 23/10)?

Also I have the SE model - was it confirmed that ESP was standard on this from 1/7/09 as well as on the Elegance? If not I will contact Skoda to make sure.

I'll go & listen to the answerphone message again to see what it says and I'll come back to you.

Listened to the message again & it says that ESP is STANDARD on all DSG models, however there was no with effect from date on it, so you may want to ask them yourself to double check whether your SE is so equipped.

Sorry I can't be anymore help.
