service costs

Featured Replies

righjt been phoning around today to try and get a price for a 40k service **** i nearly had a heart attack they want £375 for a service so i told em where to stick it:thumbup:.

p.s does anywhere know where i can get a decent priced sevice from for a 05 vrs estate in the suffolk area:rolleyes:

If you really want to save some money get a Haynes manual and some basic tools and have a crack yourself.

Pollen, Air and Oil filters are only going to set you back about £20 probably. Then £40 for oil. Then maybe £60 for brake pads if it needs them. Wiper blades about £30. Check the tyres and bulbs, and for any leaks. Then your good to go.

All very easy DIY jobs, and you've only spent £150!

Service 'schedules' are just hot air to confuse people and make an excuse to rip people off. Just use your common sense and do whatever needs doing. If it aint broke don't fix it!

It could probably do with the cambelt and water pump doing if they haven't been done already - every 4 years or every 60,000 miles whichever is sooner.

I was thinking that. Does the price include the cambelt and waterpump? If it does it's about right

I just bought a mk1 2004 Octavia VRS and had the cambelt and waterpump done at a Skoda dealer and paid just under £300 for just the cambelt and waterpump.

Myself I'd think about using an independent garage...

I got quoted £296 for a clutch on my felicia.

Not always a safe bet though. I got a quote from one garage with a good reputation and got quoted £291 for a "full service" a bit steep but I said OK. Then "of course" that didn't include a fuel filter (fair enough I guess) or spark plugs (er...what?)

This garage also claimed that the plugs shouldn't be left until 40k and should be changed every 20k (which I agree with) but if thats the case why quote for a full service without including them? All in all I think I was inline for a shafting when what I was getting over an intermediate service was "air (which I don't need) and pollen filters. Plus a more comprehensive level of service" for an extra £170 :thumbdwn:
