OSF headlight aim too high

NSR reg plate lamp not working

OSR reg plate lamp not working

OSR Coil Spring mounting cracked

NSF Bonded Suspension unit Bonding failed

NSR ARB excessive play in Ball joint

OSR ARB excessive play in Ball joint

Advisory on :

OSF Bonded Suspension unit Bonding failed

Rear brake pipe slightly corroded

Very Slight scratches on front screen.

headlights only slightly up so is it OK for me to just lower them a bit and hope they come into line?

I think I dislodged something in the hatch when I fitted the reversing camera for the sat nav system so I will have to check - or buy 2 bulbs

I guess I need to do both OSF+NSF rear wishbone bushes while I'm at it as I asume the other wont last too long if I do just the one? (TT ones, Superpro or Powerflex?) Is it easier to buy new wishbones with the bushes in or will I be able to do it with out a press?

I'm sure the tester said it was the spring that was cracked so is the description correct?

How big a job is the rear ARB ball joint to replace? do I need to get it adjusted properly when fitted?

not worried about the brake lines as that will be on the list for some time over the winter and the screen is going to crack eventually and be replaced.

When doing the front wishbone bushes is it better to do the front arm bush and ball joint as well?

I gather new nuts and bolts are advisable as well?

get some powerflex bushes but replace the fronts aswell at the same time

should have read deteriorated but serviceable for the advisory one. but best to do both eh? the full description is NSF bonded suspension unit bonding failed and part of unit is likely to become displaced (2.4.f.2)

in all honesty they are one of the very rare garages that do not screw you to leave the car with them and are happy for you to take the car elsewhere and return within ten days (working days as well m-f).

tried sweet talking the owner with promises of IT support but no go so its time to get my hands dirty again

MOT are a complete waist of time in my book anyway....

Take a look at some of the outright dangerous foreign plated crap on our roads these days Clive. I dread MOT time (Next month:() but at least it keeps our cars to a certain standard.

but only for the hour its being tested for!!!!

you could go out and the car over the next month completly fall apart but you still have an mot so pointless in my view only good at point of check only....

Update:

I have spent 3 hours replacing the front Wishbones. Had a couple of issues with the ball joints turning once they popped out but found that a slim set of Mole grips jammed in and clamped was enough to get them off. Looks like they were the originals. The replacements came from Bridgend Motor Factors £55 for the pair with the bushes and ball joints fitted. Also spent an hour replacing the coilpacks with Hitachi Bolt down ones :D

just need to get the rear ARB drop links sorted on Wednesday now

Did my wishbones this pm as well and had the same problem with the ball joints. Did you get any noise from the rear arb droplinks? And what is a bonded suspension unit?

  • Author

no the MOT Tester said there is play in the rear arb links.

translates as a Bush to us. :D

in future when removing the lower arms instead of messing about with the ball joints there is 3x13mm bolts which hold the ball joints in place just simply remove em then slide the ball joint out

I was primarily replacing the ball joints anyway but found that the old ones wouldn't come out of the arm until the arm came out anyway

one of the three bolts on the OS ball joint sheared! and one of the nuts on the NS rounded so it was a good job I opted for the whole wishbone instead of just the bushes or I would have been up the unpopular creek looking for something to row with

I still don't know what a bonded suspension unit is?

MOT passed this morning :D

The mechanic that I use swore at me cos I kept looking across the yard and laughing when he struggled to get the rear spring out to replace the rubber pad  I havent had the bill yet so he may get me back for that . what worries me though is the mot tester found that the one pad was cracked and flapping about and we replaced it but they missed the fact that the other side didn't have one!!!!! :thumbdwn:
