After 9 months of taking the Fabia's on-board computer's read outs with a pinch of salt I decided to do a proper click-to-click test during a recent week off work

Filled up to the first click and proceeded to include everything from start-stop traffic round town, to a proper B road thrash, to motorway cruising, to 50mph A road rush hour, to a fully loaded (weeks holiday luggage + 4 alloys and tyres) spirited journey home.

The fuel light came on this evening so filled up to the first click again and ***drum roll please***

37 litres to the first click

mileage says 390 miles since i reset at the previous fill up

390 / 37 = 10.540 miles per litre

4.545 litres in a gallon

10.540 x 4.545 = 47.9 miles per gallon

Quite pleased with that really given all types of driving covered and the extra weight of lugging a set of alloys around!

Sorry you got 47.9 MPG There are only 4.545 litres in a UK gallon not 5

Still a decent return for mixed driving though.

If you want litres to gallons the easy way, just multiply litres by 0.22 = gallons.

47.9 is pretty good for all that mixed driving mate. Ever looked at instantaneous MPG when flooring it in 3rd? I've seen 4.9MPG :eek: Perhaps we can claim the VRS is indeed a Supercar

I struggled to see that even on track, the lowest I think the instantaneous MPG got was 6.

Average on the day was 17 or 19 though.. :(

Never played that game with fuel i've paid for however i once saw 3.4 in a Passat on the work fleet

oh dear - will have to try and balance out the day at Hullavington at the end of the month with a 150mpg commute there and back

Uh....yeah....you think i would have checked that....

and now i'm a further 80 miles on

pretty sure it read just above 50 though

I just filled her up so here goes:

43 litres to first click = 9.45 gallons

521 miles

= 55.1 mpg

(that was including a couple of long motorway journeys)
