window tint shades

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Having some tints done on my windows on Octy Estate in race blue on Thursday. The options I have are letting in 20% or 35% light (don't want limo at 5%). I'm having these done to stop too much glare for kiddies in the back, but at the same time I don't want the car to look too "pimped". I have discounted detachable sun shades, so for anyone out there who has tints on their estate what %age did you go for (pics appreciated).

Cheers

Be very careful about having your windows tinted, the plod take a dim view (no pun intended!) about some of them.

As seen several times on TV they like to pull you over and check them for light transmission, if it doesn't pass you'll get £60 fine & possibly points.

It might be best to check the legal limits first before getting it done to save you a lot of hassle from them & then you'll be able to have that smug satisfaction of knowing you're cars fine if they do pull you in to check.

I'm only doing from B pillar back where there is no restriction (unless someone knows otherwise??).

Cheers

B Pillar back - go as dark as ya like :)

be aware that although you CAN legally have whatever youwant from the B pillar back; if you were to have an accident (say for example joining a motorway and you missed seeing a motorcyclist because of your limo tinted back windows) then the Police COULD look into the tints, and if they were proved to have contributed to the accident, then you could face prosecution for dangerous driving (having a vehicle in a dangerous condition)

Highly unlikely, but a possibility...

Highly unlikely. Most car based vans would have to have the panelling removed and windows installed.

Then again, you can get done for passing a light at red when moving out of the way to let an ambulance through so anything is possible!
