Front Wishbone Bushes

Featured Replies

Just done the Cupra/Powerfex bush replacement - the immediate handling improvement was experienced on the post-job road test! :) Been getting round to it for ages and finally a day off coincided with motivation to get stuck in. A timely move as it turned out, as on dismantling, cracks were seen to be beginning to appear in the crappy standard voided rear bushes (38k).:thumbdwn:

Anyway all went well, and I can second the recommendations to use the VAG lubricant to fit the bushes, a ratchet strap to re-fit the wishbones and (16mm) machine bolts for the improvised 'bush press'. (If anyone in the Derby area wants to borrow the kit, PM me).

I suppose the only tip I could add to the many that have been posted already is to be careful not to re-fit the wishbones 60 degrees out - I thought I might have put the first one back in at an angle and decided to pull it out again to check. It was ok, as it happens, but easy to let them rotate in all that slippery lube while you're faffing to fit the rachet strap?

The only downside to doing the job was that I noticed that the lower balljoints were feeling a bit floppy, so will reckon I'll be replacing them soon - along with new front brakes as the originals are starting to look a bit thin now!

Mind me asking how old your vRS is?

i wouldnt mind borrowing the kit to do my vrs and cupra r im in alfreton so not to far away?

Just done mine at 38k too. My old ones were looking iffy too my tires were fine and not scrubbing the inner edge.

The standard ones are so weedy i'm amazed they last as long as they do on the vRS.

Mine were replaced at 46k and I was told they werent actually that bad, but would probably need replacing in 15-20k or so.

Trying to get captiol in newport to replace mine this friday. Knocking noise from n/s/f maybe this is the problem? Gone through 5 sets of front tires since new only done 36k.(still under warranty

No problem - just e-mail me to sort out.

I've had 2 Fabia's and these went on my 1st quite soon after I bought it (knocks, creaks and sloppy steering)..

Bought the vRS with 52k on it.. Got the odd knock and creak and knew exactly what they were straight away, my mechanic said they looked fine.... but I recently had the cupras put on and guess what... it's all quiet on the front now ;)
