ADSL cancellation charge?

Featured Replies

SWMBO's cancelling from Plusnet, as she's moving out of her current flat. I was looking to move her to another provider anyway.

Plusnet have told her this morning that there's now a £20 cancellation charge, something BT started to levy last September?

Is this correct, or are they just trying to make a bit more money from cancelling customers?

Thanks,

Steve

Is it within 12 months?

No.

But it is a termination of the ADSL on that line, so the more I look into it, the more it seems BT are able to charge for this to take place.

Steve

I never heard of it, i know with plus.net if you cancel before your 12 months is up there is a £50 cancellation fee.

Yep, I was a bit surprised as well.

A few links from digging around:

MoneySavingExpert thread:

BT's new broadband cancellation fee for all ISPs - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

And some background info on ADSL migration/canellation processes ::. Kitz - ADSL Migration + MAC Key .::, from which I quote:

~ Are there any other Fees I should know about?

* Full Cease of ADSL on the line (not migration) = £15.75 + VAT

* New ADSL Provision (or migration from LLU) = £40.00 + VAT

They can't just make up charges that weren't originally in her contract/T&Cs though if this is a recent new charge.

You might need to do some digging to check what she's signed up for.

Know what you mean. I have a feeling they'll probably have made an update to the std T&Cs when this was changed though. Done the usual - informed people en mass by email and that if you don't agree with the update, you can cancel - that sort of situation.

Steve

I would cancel the DD and then tell them to swivel on the £20 charge as it's an unfair contract change.

£20 charge... what a con, if bt told me they were gonna charge we £20 i'd take a chainsaw to the telegraph pole that's in my back garden

Simply tell them when you move, and need ADSL you wont be considering them if they insist on trying to levy the charge.
