What effect would a split oil breather pipe have?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Car is a felly Fun, 1.6 Aee etc etc.

I'm wondering what affect a broken oil breather hose would have? I noticed some time ago that is was slightly split at the top, but only today I noticed that it was split a lot worse at the bottom (I already taped the top split up when I found it, not perfect I know but it was a temporary fix)

My car has several quirks which could be caused by this, I've already posted about them and they still have not been fully resolved, so without going back into that I'd like to know how a breather pipe that is ruined would effect the engine: starting, running (idle), accelerating?

p.s ordered a new pipe from Jorily this morning so I'll see if it makes any difference.

cheers guys,

Rick

It wont make a huge difference but could allow crud into the intake system. Its not ideal and you should replace it.

Thing to take note of would be that if that hose has aged and split, there could be other lines that are split .. such as vacuum lines etc. Car should be given a good going over bud.

it will probably make the engine idle a bit rough at worst, may also allow some oily fumes into the car too

I've been around with the torch and everything else looks okay. It seems that this breather hose has it's odds stacked against it due to the two harsh bends in it. It's never going to last really is it?

both of those add up. only very recently have I occasionaly smelt such a smell. only just though.

thanks guys, hopefully It should arrive tomorrow and I should see a small change. It's due an oil change too but I'll not do that just yet otherwise I'll ever know what fixed what.
