Rally GB 2009.....more problems!!

Featured Replies

Take a quote out of context, add one letter, and leave Victoria Beckham and her cronies to sponsor it.

"What had appeared to be a positive outcome for both parties - with the WAGs providing £1.5m funding"

Simples.

autosport.com - WRC News: Wales Rally GB deal collapses again

Mmm, oh dear, what has happened to this once great event?

it became WALES rally GB. Now I know there were lots of reasons for that, not least WRC moving to sprint events but IMHO Rally GB has never been great since it covered GB. Wales, Midlands Stately Home stages, Grizdale, Keilder Cardrons/Glentress/Eilbank, Forest of Ae et all.

:iagree:

And that is the problem. What other sport would get rid of it's 'unique selling point'. It was a National event that even Joe Public knew about - it had good TV/Radio/press coverage. So some bright spark decided the sport could survive without all this. I'm sorry, but you can't get publicity like that - for what is a minority sport. Now look, takes place in a corner of Wales, and nobody knows about it - plus they charge an arm and a leg to get in, and tell you were to stand.

The only possible good thing, is that the FiA have let organisers have more freedom with routes - whether the current lot (IMS) wish to use this opportunity is another matter.

I'd hardly describe Cardiff (the capital) as "a corner of Wales"...

Other than it changing from a nationwide event to the modern "Rally of South Wales"?

Well, it's based in what would be a corner of Wales if it wasn't half-way along the south edge! ;)

It's not even half-way!

Google Maps

OTOH it is only about 6 miles from the end of a peninsula. ;)

And? It's not half way along the coast!

:iagree:

As do I, its not been the same since the good old days of the Lombard RAC rally.

Peninsulas make good corners, esp if you go up the Severn to the first free crossing (Gloucester, isn't it?)
