gutted, also says cars must be registered before 31st of april 1999, mine is 5th of september 1999, oh well thats that idea out the window!

As has been said before , £1k is funded by the government and the other £1k (or more depending on the car) is funded by the manufacturer.

You can get discounts as large as the manufacturer's part quite easily with no trade in so that just leaves the government funded part to worry about. If you get £500 for your old car as a working vehicle that's only going to leave tou £500 down on the scrappage scheme so nothing too much to worry about

The Government have set aside a pot, I have no idea what amount it is but as soon as that dries up then the scrappage scheme is gone.

You will get a grand for ANY car regardless of age. I got it for my 51plate 1.4 renault megane with 95k on the clock and serviced by me for 2 years, to add to this it had been in 3 crashed (2 of which potential right offs fixed by my self), had 2 worn wheel bearings and a worn gearbox bearing...

The general feeling I'm hearing in the trade, is that the scheme will run out of dosh by approx. Novemeber, and it can't come a day too soon for most of them apparently.

Yeah, pretty much any knackered car could be worth £1000 in part-ex on the deal (obviously figured would be fudged to show £250 part-ex and £750 "discount").

scrappage officially ends when the £300,000,000 pot of money runs out. Most dealers are expecting end of sept/october for it to run out, but we will se when we get there.

Do tell, sounds interesting?

Is it the £1K contribution or dealing with 300,000 bangernomicists?

It's the humongous amount of paperwork for each scrapping that's causing most of the grief apparently. Also, some stealers are getting quite a bit of heart and ear ache from 'screamers' that don't qualify for the scheme, as though it's all there fault like.:thumbdwn:

Exactly! Any old banger would be worth £1000 "on the deal" :)

Apparently it is a typical New labour style paper mountain with not enough cash allocated. Dealers had suspend deliveries of cars a few months back because of delays with payment.

I hear that many car companies will carry the scheme on a bit longer out of their own pockets but don't know whether this is true?

I've just paid £14900 for a Volvo V50 2.0ds with metallic plus my old Octavia on the scrappage scheme. The V50 lists at around £20200 so I hope a pretty good deal. the Octavia realistically would have been worth 6 to £800. Not worth the hassle of selling privately as a few faults were present.

I don't think the scheme is at all environmentally friendly but for me made a good financial decision.

A 2 yr old V50 with 15000m on it would have probably only saved me about £1k max over buying new.
