Fabia 02 1.4 16v Oil

Featured Replies

I went to the Car Parts shop which I usually go to today and showed the guy behind the counter the Skoda Fabia Owner's Manual and from the Oil specs shown he wasn't quite sure which oil to use. He said it was a choice between 5/40 fullly synthetic and 10/40 semi-synthetic. Can anybody here advise be as to which one to buy or will they both be ok? Cheers.

He told me that 2002 was a year when (looking at his oil guide) the spec changed. This is what causes the confusion. Oh yes, the oil which he had was Lucas.....which was £25 and £20 respectively (see above).

Lucas branded oils - now that is fancy, I'd think that some bandits are just renting the use of that old brand - probably the same bandits that brand Lucas bulbs which are now just third world junk with an old well known British name on them. Come to think of it, was it not a load of non UK bandits that bought a bit of Lucas then dumped the manufacturing (took the money and ran).

Anyway, the oil spec for that engine will have changed for many reasons within VAG, one of them being a change to variable servicing for some VAG brands. Why not just buy some Fuchs Titan Super Syn SL 10-40 fully synthetic from GSF - web order if necessary - no delivery charge I seem to remember.

Edit:-I think that I should change the oil quoted to be 5-40 as I'd think that 10-40 is wrong! (I'll check later GP watching right now!)

Give Skoda a ring, have engine/chassis number ready, they should know (hopefully).

Good luck. Ian.26/07/2009. :)

I can't offer much advice.. but can agree that the 1.4 16v engine has so very many flavors! 100, 80 or 75hp!... though on an 02 plate I think you can rule out the 80.. and if it's an auto it'll be the 75. If it's an Elegance spec it's most likely the 100... if it's comfort it could be either and I don't think the 1.4 16v came in the classic? I did read on here once that if the 16v on the back is red it's 100hp and if it's black it's the 75? Not sure how true that is but my old 100hp was indeed written in red!

TBH though, don't think any of that will help.. best bet is to give Skoda a tinkle (there help line is actually very good for things like this) like Ian said :)

I did give them a tinkle and the bloke I spoke to said that any 10-40 semi synthetic would do. I was initially reluctant to call hence my question here as I had bought my car privately. Thanks for your replies.

10-40 semi synthetic - did you see that I changed what I suggested from 10-40 to 5-40 synthetic.
